"I'm NOT Hungry!"

"Nope, not one bite!"
Mysteriously, Angel stopped eating Sunday.  She didn't have more than a lick or two on Monday either.  This is very odd, since she is always the one to find food or beg for more.

Of course, I am in panic mode.  The Hubby, however, has a cool refusal to get freaked out.  He has the patience of saint!  Everything that I've read says a cat must have water, or else bad things start happening. Most cats get water from their food, and Angel is no exception. The fact that she was listless and wouldn't even walk over to her food bowl is so contrary to her usual self.  My hand was hovering over the phone, ready to call the veterinarian.  I even smeared some food on her front paw, to get her to lick it off and maybe rekindle her appetite.  She licked, but then napped.

This morning, I woke early to seek her out.  Angel was more lively, and even fought off one of my clinches!  There was litterbox evidence that her system is going what it should.  When I left for work a few hours ago, she still hadn't eaten anything, but she at least approached the bowls to sniff. We haven't called the vet's office yet, as The Hubby promised to find some way of tempting her to eat more, with tuna or catnip or treats during the day today.  I have asked him to call me with updates.

She could have a hairball, or managed to eat a bug that is making her feel sick.  It's been seasonably warm, so it can't be the heat even though we do not have central air conditioning.  My line in the sand is tonight; she eats or we visit the doc on Wednesday.

The Hubby and I have been so laser-focused on Chucky's intestinal issues; watching him as if he were a ticking cat bomb, waiting to explode!  And he does explode, by running around the house then finding a corner to hide in. But we noticed Angel's lack of enthusiasm right away; we rarely EVER have to pick up a bowl with food still in it with Angel around!

Addendum!  The Hubby just called, said there has been no change in the cat situation, since he was out of the house running errands.  Now he plans to work on enticing Angel to eat something.  AND THEN he had the nerve to call me a CAT HELICOPTER MOM!  Well...yeah....duh!

  1. Every cat knows this fun game of Let's Not Eat and Drive the People Insane. What works for me is getting some Fancy Feast Broth Topper and putting it on the usual food. Warm it up if needed. So far it's not failed me. Here you can find it at Petsmart and grocery stores. We hope this passes quickly for you. Keep us updated, please.

  2. Oh dear! Maybe some Gerbers baby food would work? We all love ham, then chicken. (We are not keen on the beef.)

Anyway, we concur with the Whiskeratti. We play that game sometimes, too. Drives our mom mental! We'll keep our paws crossed that this is just a blip.

  5. We went through this with Cody and it was from food he had eaten that made him sick. It is IMPERATIVE that she drink something and eat........if she doesn't, I would go to the Vet sooner than later. Sending purrs and prayers.

  6. Wally had a few days lately where he wouldn't eat much. I was taking Ernie to the vet and Wally always has to tag along so I went ahead and made an appt for him as well. Vet couldn't find anything going on so we did blood work, etc. Came back fairly normal. He's eating again...so I think it may have been the heat or he just wasn't it. If the cats don't eat in a day or so, I am definitely making a vet appt. I hope Angel starts eating soon.

  7. I will be praying that Angel decides to eat. Maybe a tooth is bothering her?

  8. I'm sorry to hear Angel is not eating. Like you said, it can be hairball, which had affected one of my boys' appetite, too. I hope she will start eating before she has to go to the vet. xo

  9. Awwww....bless her heart! She is beautiful. Here in Montreal, Canada, it is scorching hot and humid but thankfully there is central air conditioning where I live. Still, it does affect my black and white, 3 year old male, green eyed Romeo. He is right now sitting beside me looking a bit forlorn. A cuddle and some soft, sweet words are coming to him from me...right now. I hope Angel will be feeling great soon.

  10. Just remember, Angel, you need to eat or you'll have to go to the stabby place. The human suggests pureed meat baby food.

  12. Ah, that Let's-Not-Eat game. Our sister Olivia does that from time to time, usually in the spring and just as fall is settling in. It's nearly always a bug's fault 'cause she can't help but want to eat them. Our Mom says good for your Mom to be so watchful. That's being a good Mom!
