Angel versus Vet!

Waiting...for the doc to come!

The small peeballs at the bottom
Angel had a bladder infection awhile ago, and we thought it was all gone. Last week, The Hubby noticed that she was going in and out of the litter box with greater frequency than usual, and the evidence of little peeballs the size of marbles instead of big peeballs the size of a 1/2 of an apple made it clear: our girl either has a new infection or the old one just never quite went away.

On Friday, October 7, we went to the vet's office, but Angel proved to be a sneak!  She had no urine in her bladder for the doc to test.  The doc did not want to give her a Covenia shot, which is what she received in August. This time, we are giving her Clavamox every 12 hours.  I am not crazy about her recovery; those peeballs are growing in size, but not fast enough for me. The Hubby and I have agreed to give her the seven days of antibiotics, then decide if she needs to make another trip to the vet.  She's also developed diarrhea, poor thing!

Here's the kicker:  we believe that it's TRIPS TO THE VET that are making Angel so nervous to cause her bladder issues!  It was MY idea to take her to the holistic vet, but in my defense I did not know that we needed to go back again every few months for rechecks.  Angel has had at least six vet appointments this year; three (at least) to the holistic vet, once to get a dental, and now twice for her bladder. Poor kitty!  Yep, this was all my idea, and no good deed goes unpunished, as they say.

We will see her through the bladder thing, but no more vet visits for her for at least six months after this.  Angle obviously takes after The Hubby, who dislikes going to the doctor so much, that he hasn't gone in about 40 years. That really is a four and a zero!

  1. Yes, that can be stress related, we fought that battle for a year, but not on the holistic front. Something with antiinflammatory properties might help.

  8. Angel, we are so sorry you are having troubles again. This is what happened with Toby - he started with a difficult bacterial UTI then developed others over several months. Lab tests showed they were stress related. And this is the reality of cats - treating them repeatedly, lots of visits, can make life misery for them. Toby has been to the vet so many times this year... I worry about him.

  9. Poor sweetie! We understand completely as Sunny's UTI returned just four days after her last dose of antibiotics. And she had needed to go to the vet eight times this year already. Stress UTIs are simply the worse and we hope your holistic vet is able to help Angel!

  10. Oh, Angel, I hope you will feel better soon! My Waddles would get really stressed out going to the vet too, and I think it does affect how they feel.

  11. When Zoey had pee issues, it was very difficult to get her to the vet and once there, she couldn't be examined. So instead of stressing her out, we've decided to make sure she eats predominantly wet food and add a little water to it to make sure she's kept "flushed out." Since starting that (and that has to be over 4 years ago), she hasn't had any more pee issues. We hope Angel is feeling better soon.

  17. Poor Angel!! Sounds like Carmine and Lita's vet schedule..... Carmine has to go every three months to get his anal glands expressed (please don't tell him I told you - he will be embarrassed!) and Lita has had such a hard time with her asthma, she's been several times this year, too.

It really stinks when the vet visits stress them so much. I know you might not like the idea of medication (neither do I) but our vet gave us some 100mg Neurontin (Gabapentin) to give to Lita before going to vet visits. Thankfully she doesn't need it since we switched vets, but that's an idea that might help Angel. Also Bach's Rescue Remedy or calming treats might help some? I wish we could explain to them that going to the vet was to help them so they could understand. Poor babies.

I hope Angel feels better. Some probiotics might help with the diarrhea...that Clavamox is hard on the tummy, I know. Please give her pets and hugs and kisses from us!

  19. Do you know of any vets that will make home visits? I don't think there are very many, but I have heard of some that will make home calls.
