Farewell, Angel Zuzu

Please visit Colehaus Cats while they mourn the passing of their sweet Zuzu.

 Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? Asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Remember Me Thursday: September 28, 2017

Join the Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement

Remember Me Thursday® is a global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.

On September 28, 2017, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. In 2016, people using #RememberTheRescue and #RememberMeThursday reached nearly 340 million people on social media.

Can we get even more people sharing the importance of pet adoption in 2017?

It’s up to you to spread the word.

Event Creator Mike Arms
Meet Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center, and creator of both the International Pet Adoptathon and the Home 4 The Holidays program which, in partnership with international animal organizations, has placed over 13 million pets in homes since 1999.

Mike Arms, on why he created Remember Me Thursday, “My heart breaks for those beautiful people working in animal welfare who are forced to take the lives of the pets they love. I believe lighting a candle for the orphan pets will be a way for people to let the world know how much they love them, and the awareness can help in increasing adoptions and decreasing euthanasia.”

Angel and Chuck came to us via informal adoption, meaning we removed them from the home where their mother was unspayed and had had multiple litters of unwanted kittens.  Our kittens were spayed and neutered just as soon as they were old enough.  And since then, I have become active with TNR, as a result of stray cats appearing in our backyard, and in my office parking lot.

Spay and neuter your pets!

Autumnal Woolie Migration!

This one only made it to
the bottom of the stairs

This woolie made it to the end
of the hallway!

This woolie got lost,
and was found wandering aimlessly
under the dining room table

Chuck: "Man oh man!  Those
woolies would NOT listen to me!  None
of them got near the front door, and
now I'm too tired."
Me: :::under my breath:::
"Like trying to herd cats..."
Chuck hasn't herded my woolie socks from the upstairs bedroom down to the front door in a long time...too long.  The Hubby and I figure that he's feeling pretty good to have taken on this autumnal migration.  We've been feeding him at every opportunity, and he's regained a little weight.  I gave a squeal of delight when I saw these woolies!

Farewell, Angel Phoebe

Angel Phoebe
We will miss you so, sweet Phoebe.
Our hearts are with your Mom, Dad and Grammie.
No words can express our joy at having you in our lives, if only via the interwebs, nor our sadness that you needed to journey to The Rainbow Bridge.

Farewell, sweet girl!

Glow-In-The-Dark Cats

Lights on!

Lights off!

Seriously, why do I need glow-in-the-dark cats?

Because...they exist!
And are adorable...

And now, these four cuties are on my office credenza, to delight me when I flick the office lights off each day as I leave.

One each for Chucky, Angel, Patty O'Malley, and Sweetie.

-AND-

Just so you know...I was loopy and acted silly BEFORE we adopted cats,
so none of that Crazy Cat Lady business...
I'm A Crazy Lady...with Cats!

There is a Big, HUGE distinction
(even if I would LURV to be up to my armpits in cats...)

Thank you for your kind well-wishes for my

Stop-Action Sweetie

She's got impressive claws, but I simply love that she'll flex at least one paw at a time when we are having a snugglefest.  These images were taken selfie-style, as she danced around behind my back, head-butting my kidneys, then peeking around.  Her fur is silky smooth.  Those weapons of hers were not used on me!

WeeHeeHee Wednesday

Surprise card from co-worker
A couple of weeks ago, we had pretty much the entire global management team for my company visiting my office for four straight days.  I arrived early to meet the caterer, and stayed late to assist the sixty or so travelers.  As tiring as it was, I hung out with some really fascinating people, and it doesn't hurt to rub elbows with my bosses bosses, right?

The executive assistant for the company president sent me this gorgeous kitty card, with a thank you for my hard work.  She had noticed that my office is coated in cat images, statues, framed art and calendars!  She has her own cat too.

How delightful to receive this card, which I have pinned up next to the rest of my cat artwork.  Makes me all giddy to get lovely cat-themed items from out of the blue!

P.S. Please send healing thoughts for Phoebe, at 15 And Meowing.

Caption Contest Winner!

Oh, what fun!  Pets Overload is having a weekly photo caption contest, and yours truly won for Caption Contest #3 (click here).

Silliness is a good thing, dontcha think?  As we are all buried under stress, news, Mother Nature's antics, and a bazillion other things that make us want to weep... we have our loved ones, our furry, finned, and feathered friends, and EACH OTHER.

Tell a joke, send a smile, giggle a little, guffaw a lot...life is a gift, and we can treat it like the surprise present that it is.

And Some More 'Hood Cats!

As I work on honing my Cat Observer skills, this new kitty appeared!

My guess is it's a boy, but he wouldn't come near me when I did my smoochie noises and coos.  I've nicknamed him 'Harlequin'.  Although this was the first time I have seen him, I am confident that he lives at the house that he was dancing in front of.  Since I walk past this house almost daily, it's probable that Harlequin is a new resident.
Harlequin, on Smith Street
More Harlequin...
Then, lo and behold, one of the Floofy Tail sisters decided to say hello!  She rolled on the walk for me to pet her tummy, and she LURVs chin scritches. When my phone came out, she walked away and refused to come back any closer.
Floofy Tail #1, on Miller Street, being haughty
We've know both Floofy Sisters for years, but they are not always around.  More streetwise hipsters than hausfraus, they wander around the yards, and keep themselves to themselves.  Every time I see them, I offer them food and lodging at Chez Eastside Cats, and point the way to our house.  As of yet, neither had taken me up on my offer.
The Hubby and The POM
Just in case you were worried that I was neglecting our own clowder, here is proof that Patty O'Malley (POM) can really work his magic on everybody!

Thankful Thursday

We have joined "Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop"!

Thankful that our friends and family in Florida and Georgia are safe and sound, even if still waiting for electricity.

Thankful that we have wonderful blog friends in the Blogosphere who continually give us encouragement, great information, and friendship.

Thankful that my bestest friend J is recovering after surgery.

Thankful for local pet stores that work hard to make both their four-footed and two-footed clients happy!  Premier Pet Supply is one such business in Metro Detroit that I visit regularly.  While at the Beverly Hills, Michigan store yesterday, I had the pleasure to meet: Newton!

On YouTube

In addition, I saw this decal on a car in the parking lot:
Yep, that's Hello Kitty!,
wearing a Detroit Lions cheerleader outfit
Disclaimer: This is my opinion only.  I was not compensated for mentioning Premier Pet Supply in any way; I am a customer there and wanted to give kudos to a locally-owned non-big-box pet store.

Shout outs to Caren of Cat Chat With Caren And Cody, who is a Detroit Lion's fan, but we cannot fathom WHY, and to Sheebie of Katnip Lounge who LURVs Hello Kitty!

Wisdom Wednesday

"If you walk barefoot through a house with cats,
expect to find surprises"*
Chuck, who left a tootsie roll at
the bottom of the stairs...which was stepped on

Angel, who upchucked in the
front room...which was stepped on
*I totally made this saying up!

Lupe's Escape...Kinda...

Anyone remember "Romancing The Stone" movie, with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner from 1984?  Well, if you do, do you recall what 'Lupe's Escape' was?

The drug dealer guy had his own private way across the river, and he called it 'Lupe's Escape'.  Well, Sweetie needed her own escape from The Stairway to Heaven, because Patty O'Malley (POM) would sit on the steps and prevent her from coming down!
Beginning the work...

The Hubby and his tools

Lupe's Escape from below

See the new board closer to the top?
Therefore, I bullied suggested to The Hubby that we add a second egress, so Sweetie would feel more comfortable.  After much prodding and discussion, a long board was added to a new opening in the balcony.  Sweetie used it right away!

Then, POM sat at the bottom of the stairs, and she was again trapped.  I had to run outside and call him, so she could be freed. Lupe's Escape didn't work!

Obviously, we need a second set of steps, leading to/from Lupe's Escape...not just a single board.  The Hubby has his orders to make it so, however I am sure I'll be nagging encouraging him this weekend again.

Sweetie easily moves up and down The Stairway, and she spent over five minutes INSIDE THE HOUSE.  She is comfortable there.  POM, however, looks in the door and meows pitifully, and then turns tail and goes back down.  My hope is that he keeps watching Sweetie, losing his fear to plain curiosity, and a desire to have whatever she is having!

To be able to keep them inside during the coldest winter nights is my goal, and The Stairway to Heaven with Lupe's Escape, and some work from The Hubby just might make it happen, Captain!

(Yes, I know we should call it 'Sweetie's Escape' but The Hubby and I have been quoting lines from "Romancing The Stone" for so many years, it's hard to change.  So, Lupe's Escape it is!  And Lupe is pronounced, 'loo-pay'.)

Chuck In The Round

Chuck is either imitating a hurricane, or a black hole in space.  Either way, you cannot tell where one end starts and the other ends!

Purrs and hugs to all who have been challenged by hurricanes, wildfires, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes recently.

Also an moment of quiet in remembrance of the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01.

New 'Hood Cats

Cutie window kitty

"Oh my!  And who are you?"
Other than:
Stormy
Boots
Sly
Sneakers
Floofy Tail
Kiki
Patty Look-Alike
Smith Street Kitty
Jaspur
Twin Gingers
and Tuxedo...I've found two new cat friends, pictured above.  I'll admit to seeing the Window kitty a few times, but never got a good image until now. But the Meezer Kitty, hanging out in someone's yard...where did he come from?  Although a little bit shy, Meezer Kitty did not run away with tail low; he just sat near the hedge and wondered who the heck was calling 'kitty kitty!'?

Patty O'Malley...what the....???

The Cat Car is Official!

"MEOW!"
Much to The Hubby's chagrin, I purchased an official cat lady magnet for The Cat Car.  He truly believes that people will now try to run me off of the road, just because of it!  But...let's face it...they try to run me off the road anyhow, as The Cat Car is a tiny, cute little automobile, while the preponderance of vehicles out there are big, hulking SUVs, mini-vans, and 'pick-em-up-trucks'.  I am simply a speck to be swatted out of the way when they want to speed!

I drive smartly and defensively, but stay out of the way of kooks. Been driving for 30 plus years, and I love driving The Cat Car.  So nimble, and it sips gasoline. The Hubby tries to 'borrow' it all of the time, then I have to fight him to get it back!  "Go get your own Cat Car!," I say.

I love my 'Meow' magnet, and have plans for a cat-themed license plate for the front bumper...but don't let The Hubby know about that!
