Today, I am thankful that this lump of fur that I spied while walking...
...only turned out to be a lost mitten!
It's heartbreaking to see squirrels or other critters who've been bested by motor vehicles, but this time was a false alarm.
Here's a cheeky very-much-alive squirrel image, also taken while in the 'hood.
We have nine squirrel species in Michigan, but the three that we see the most in our yard are the Eastern Fox Squirrels, Eastern Gray Squirrels that are gray with a white tummy, and Eastern Gray black morphs like my friend above.
Let's Hop!
OMG! That did look like a deceased squirrel.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the Lost mitten. Somebody's got a really cold hand. And I bet that was a Christmas present. I love this squirrels and I'm the only ones we have right here in our neighborhood are gray ones that come in various shades. Up the road 15 miles at the State Forest there are black ones that I get to see occasionally. And of course my most special one is the fox squirrel.
ReplyDeleteThat would have given me a start, too.
ReplyDeleteWow, you really know your squirrels! I need to do some research on the breeds in our area - so far only one breed that I can tell. They get most of the sunflower seeds I put out for the birds. Stay warm and safe!

ReplyDeleteYes, that's scary, I've checked out many a dead bunch of leaves and bags. I'm always thankful for false alarms too. Thanks for joining Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteWe once saw something which looked like a dead bird in the yard, it was leaves laid out in an odd pattern. The relief is amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt's like when you are driving and see something ui in the road which you hope is just trash
