The winter solstice has the least daylight of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and the sun is at its lowest angle.
Modern pagans and Wiccans use the Wheel of The Year.

There are many henges and rock formations created by ancient peoples in which the sun aligns with specific petroglyphs or chambers on different solstices.
Newgrange in Ireland, County Meath, is a neolithic passage tomb where the sunrise shines deep into the structure.
Henges are a passion of mine, and since I keep finding Stonehenge lookalikes all over social media, I post them on the two solstices and two equinoxes.

ReplyDeleteCookie/biscuit henge absolutely made this solstice lover’s heart happy—stones are wonderful, but lining up the sun with snacks might be even better. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteWe are really looking forward to the days getting longer!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
I think I told you some time ago that when my middle boy gave himself a saved for trip to England as a graduation present, the folks who invited him to stay with them took him to Stone Henge; and he was so disappointed at how small it is as compared to ones imagination at only seeing it in pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe days will be getting longer now!
