Seastruck

May 22 is National Maritime Day.
"National Maritime Day is a United States federal observance created to recognize the maritime industry. It is observed on May 22, the date in 1819 that the American steamship Savannah set sail from Savannah, Georgia on the first ever transoceanic voyage under steam power." - Wikipedia

My beloved uncle, my father's brother, was a Merchant Marine.

This is woo-woo stuff, yet I believe I was a seaperson or sailor in a previous life, possibly from Britain.

Also am drawn to water, and this could be why I live in The Great Lakes State in this life, yet I get seasick at the drop of a hat!

Am captivated by sailing ships especially, and have a 22-volume set of The Seafarers published by Time-Life Books from 1978 to 1982, which arrived monthly, and I so enjoyed unpacking each book and placing it on my shelf.

How 'bout some cat & boat sillies for this day?

A greeting card purchased while vacationing in London; The Owl and The Pussycat, in the pea-green boat.

This is why people with cats can't have nice things.
Not at all sure where or why this image was created, but why not cats as Vikings or marauders?

😹 😹 😹

Henry Update:

Henry: "Really?"

Scared The H Man like crazy on Thursday, while removing the bedclothes for wash day.

Something about the pillows makes him jump, and I mistakenly grabbed the one behind him.

Like a cartoon character, Henry's feets were scrambling, but couldn't find purchase for a second, so he flailed away until his claws bit, and he dashed away to hide in the linen closet.

Sorry, dude!

He came back to nosh from his bowl, so he's okay, even if a bit wary as I replace all bedding.

P.S. Something has changed with Blogger; it used to update My Favorite Blogs when each had a new post, but somehow that isn't working anymore.

Apologies if I've lapsed in commenting; I'd start at the top and work my way down before.

Now I know that this is an inaccurate way to go about it.

  2. Blogger has done the same thing to me. I have to go hunting every day to see if I've missed anybody. I love that photo of Henry. I grew up at the Ohio river in southern indiana. So I'm really a river girl and I miss seeing it where I live now. My Rivers like a large Creek here.

    1. Where I grew up, all we had was a tiny creek. Once I moved to Macomb County, right next to Lake St. Clair, my horizons opened.

  3. I'm glad Henry is doing good! Sailing is lots of work. I did a stint on an Americas Cup Racing Yacht for season. My arms will never be the same.

    1. Mack, he got his payback; he bit my thumb on Friday! OUCH! But it's my left thumb; my right one is the one that pushes his meds down his gob.

  6. My husband and I laughed out loud; he had to see that kitty on the aircraft carrier. ~grin~ I wish we lived along the ocean, a river, a lake, or even a pond, for that matter. Be well, my dear.

  7. I don't think of it as woo woo. I believe we have many lives and things that happen in past ones make us fear or love some things in this life.

  8. Being on the water is a delight. I’m sorry it makes you seasick, Grandma was always like that, too.

    Thanks for the smiles!
