World Spay Day is held on the last Tuesday of February every year.
Spaying and neutering your pets is so very important.
Our readers are already well-versed in this.
A list of cats that I've had 'fixed':
Chuck
Angel
George
Hobo
Sweetie
Honey
Paddy O'Malley
Sammy
Chili Bruce and Manny were neutered by the rescue before being put up for adoption.
Henry, with his ear tip, was neutered by a kind soul practicing TNR in my 'hood.
Here's a story that drives home the importance of getting all of your home animals rendered unable to have litters:
A co-worker had four or five cats, but only had the lone male neutered.
One day, the females broke through a screened window, each got out, and all of them became pregnant.
So, by saving himself the cost of the spay surgeries, now he was hip deep in kittens.
There are low-cost spay/neuter clinics all over now; the expense is worth it.
Fix 'em, folks!
My MIL was the same as that worker and only had male cats castrated. They were farm cats so there were endless kittens. When she died and we adopted her cats, the first thing we did was have the females neutered. We were too late for Mother Puss as she was already in kitten and the vet said she was quite advanced, so she had another and her last litter. She was Kitty Yumbum's mother and lived to 23 years old. Her sister Auntie Puss lived to 24 years old.
ReplyDelete"Fix 'em, folks!"- That would make awesome t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. Dad wanted to share here his *@%&# upbringing including twenty-some unfixed cats at one point but didn't feel this was the time or place for it.
ReplyDeletegrate message guyz N how manee yeerz did bob barker say thiz at de end oh hiz show !!
ReplyDeleteTerrific post! And thanks for reminding me to post our post! (Alas, I forgot to schedule World Spay Day). Spay/Neuter is extremely important especially where we live. People from larger centres seem to believe that if they "dump" a dog or cat or kittens in the country, they will be "taken care of". Alas, if they can't be caught and taken to a shelter they don't survive. Even here in our village with several people taking care of our "neighborhood cats", (which we TNR) we lose a few. Keep being AWESOME! Marvelous Marv and Mom Barb
ReplyDeleteYes we need to fix it. Well done.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. Scritches to the kitties. ♥
Amen.
ReplyDeleteYou re so right! Spaying and neutering is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteIt is so important and it's sad that so many humans are so stupid about doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for spreading the word on fixing. XO
ReplyDeleteI just hope the message is getting through.
ReplyDeletea very important message
ReplyDeleteThe drive of unfixed cats to reproduce is smarter than any human. The only way to beat it is to cut off the end of the adventure.
