Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, born on May 22, 1859.
Happy Birthday, ACD!
The Sherlock Holmes books and stories made a huge impact on my life, as I read them when I was young.
Am thankful for that, even if much of the British Victorian social mores ACD depicted are unconscionable in modern times.
Indeed, we attended the play "Baskerville" at the Chemainus Theatre, in Chemainus, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island.
Dinner and a show, and both were terrific!
The actors of Holmes and Dr. Watson played only those roles, while the six or seven additional cast members changed costumes multiple times, adding to a tongue-in-cheek humorous take on that terrific novel, "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

Also so thankful to my host ET, who not only put me up in her home, but the "Baskerville" experience was a birthday gift to me! ❤️
Let's Hop!
I know you say cats are from outer space, but your host was ET?
ReplyDeleteWe live on the edge of Dartmoor, and when I was young I was always afraid of coming face to face with the Hound of the Baskervilles.
What an incredibly beautiful theater on the outside. Glad you had that wonderful experience.
ReplyDeleteThe Sherlock Holmes stories really had an affect on me, too, growing up. I recall reading them before going to school as a boy. It was a disappointment when I realised how few of them there were.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great gift.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool time! Sherlock Holmes is a treasure! Thanks for joining Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeletea great birthday tribute to a great artist.
ReplyDeleteReading older literature, we do have to keep in mind some things were different and easily accepted. Doesn't make it right today, but it simply is a part of the story.
ReplyDeleteI would very much enjoy attending such a play as this.
