October 29: National Cat Day

Our world changed, on August 29, 2004, when Celestial Angel and Chuck entered our lives.

Nine years later, we began Eastside Cats Blog, as living with cats just became too much fun (and weirdness) to keep to ourselves.

While both The Hubby and I have other hobbies; for him, being grouchy and making excellent food, and for me; reading, yardening, art and architecture, forests and wildflowers, we both accept and proudly commit to being CAT LOVERS!

We are eternally grateful to have cats in our lives, and will do so as long as we draw breath.

What's the most fun, is that we are not alone!  There are other folks out there, with blogs, and stores full of cat things, bookstore cats and library cats...t-shirts with name it!

Here are a few items in our collection of cat stuff:

2020 Calendar from The Dancing Cat
Maneki Neko from Japan, a gift from my boss

Greeting Card from Wendy Berry

Cat Mask and Catzilla hoodie from Skinny Pete's Gourmet Catnip

Cast iron cat, from Ditto Consignments

Cat scarf, purchased while shopping in Bath, UK in 2018.

Disclaimer: I purchased or was gifted each item featured today for my own use and amusement, and mention the artist and website as a courtesy to my readers.  I only post about items that I think you all would enjoy, and for no financial gain for myself.

Although, I think everyone should have a Catzilla shirt!

National Black Cat Day!

October 27th is National Black Cat Day!

Or maybe International Black Cat Day?

National Black Cat Day was founded by Cats Protectionan animal charity in the United Kingdom, to raise awareness concerning the lower rates of adoption for black cats.

Dogs, too, suffer from the same stigma.

I can guarantee, that Eastside Cats will always have a housepanther on staff, and we are blessed to have three in residence, and we don't care what you call it, we think every day is Black Cat Day!

Manny, getting scritches and showing off his underpants

Looky at what showed up in the mail...a surprise!
Julia's Cats
Authors: Patricia Barey and Therese Burson
Hardcover, 145 pages
Published August 1, 2012 by Harry N. Abrams
ISBN1419702750 (ISBN13: 9781419702754
My thoughtful sis-in-law sent this!

While I am as far from a chef as anyone can be, I enjoyed the film "Julie & Julia", and I visited Julia Child's kitchen at The National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. in 2016.

Obviously, Julia Child, world-renowned chef and TV personality, loved cats!
Image from the interwebs; I'm not this good of a photographer either!
She also provided the image below; turkeys in her yard!

Turkeys can be rather aggressive, plus they leave 'leavings' behind!
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin proposed the turkey for our national bird?
Thank you, LK!

It's a delightful book; I recommend it!

Canopy Cat Rescue

"We rescue cats stuck in trees all over Western Washington.

We are a non-profit organization because EVERY cat deserves the chance to be  rescued."

Tom Otto and Shaun Sears are arborists, who love cats.  They discovered there was a real need for someone to rescue cats stuck high in trees in their area.  These gentlemen and their team are true heroes, who work only on donations.

This is why, when I saw a fundraiser for Canopy Cat Rescue, I ordered a very cool hoodie!
Worn with pride!

Purrsonally, I think these men should run for President, but then they wouldn't be climbing trees to rescue stuck kitties?!?

Watch their videos; I'm telling you, these guys put it all on the line for felines!

I am thankful for their huge hearts, and their tree-climbing skills.

Speaking of trees, here are some images from my 'hood:

Taken on October 16
Same tree, taken October 21
These yellow leaves just glow; the photo doesn't do it justice.
