Blessed Samhain

The All Saints' Day celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the traditional night of Samhain in the Celtic religion, began to be called All-Hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween.

Devil's Night

The night before Halloween is called Devil's Night.

The idea, when I was a young'un, was to be a bit naughty, by draping trees with toilet paper, using soap on windows, ringing doorbells and running away, and any other light trouble that kids will think up.

Today is the intersection of Devil's Night, Halloween, Black Cat Month, and Bat Week.

Therefore, here is some silliness!

National Cat Day!

October 29 is American National Cat Day!

This day reminds us to show extra love and affection to our feline friends and to emphasize the importance of spay/neutering your cats to avoid overpopulation and abandonment.

Who better to represent today than my ❤️ cat, Celestial Paddy O'Malley!

It's Bat Week!

 Bat Week 10/24 to 10/31

Learn more here: Bat Week

"Humans need bats.

Worldwide, there are more than 1,400 species of bats—that’s almost 20 percent of all mammal species.

Bats live almost everywhere on Earth except the most extreme desert and polar regions.

So, no matter where you live, it is almost certain that there are bats living near you.

Bats are amazing animals that are vital to the health of our environment and economy.

Although we may not always see them, bats are hard at work all around the world each night.

Most bats in North America eat insects, including moths, beetles, aquatic insects, and flies.

A single bat can eat up to its body weight in insects each night.

Eating all these insects helps protect our food crops and forests from insect pests, saving farmers and forest managers billions of dollars each year."

I ❤️ bats!
Must have a cat with bats image too!
Bats look like kittens, with big wings, no?

Nose to nose.
And no, I didn't pose them like this; they handle their double-cute all on their own.

Paddy and I hadn't yet established our snuggle sessions at this time.

Turtle and Opossum

Michigan had beautiful weather on Saturday, and being a college football widow, I spent hours outside with Mother Nature and her children.

Today's Sunday Selfie was made by Miss Woody, a wood turtle kept at the Nature Center of Stony Creek Metropark, in Shelby Township, Michigan.

Miss Woody!
This possum was enjoying snacks that had fallen from the bird feeder.
The colors were so bright!
So many beautiful images while enjoying the nature trails.
Below is a video of Stony Creek, burbling as it flowed beneath a bridge.
