Cat Museums

Your Guide to the World's Cat Museums

By no means does the above site list all cat-based museums, but it's a great place to start!

In yesterday's post, I mentioned The Lucky Cat Museum, which is listed on the website above.

I will visit there someday, however I have visited another museum noted:

Feline Historical Museum, in Alliance, Ohio.

Here are a few images of items that were on display:

The collection is housed in a former bank building, with a cat puppet collection displayed in the vault.

Have you visited a cat museum?  Mention it in your comments!

Am collecting tons of cat items myself; perhaps starting my own cat museum is in my future.

Maneki Neko Day

Today, the 29th of September, Japan celebrates Maneki Neko (Beckoning Cat) Day.

Maneki Neko brings happiness, good luck, and wealth to homes, businesses, and their customers.

Why was the 29th of September chosen as Maneki Neko Day?

In Japanese, the number 9 is pronounced as KU and that sounds like this verb ‘kuru’ ๆฅใ‚‹ meant COME.

Then, the number 2 is pronounced FU and as l mentioned before the number 9 is KU so we can make the word FUKU็ฆwith the number 29. That means GOOD LUCK.

The pronunciation of 9.29 can be written KURUFUKUๆฅใ‚‹็ฆas ‘Good luck is coming’ and that is related to Maneki Neko.

We are thankful to have two Maneko Nekos at Eastside Cats.
The cutie on the red stand, with a Lucky Cat book tucked inside, was a gift from my neice.
The larger one was brought from Japan by my boss.

There is the Lucky Cat Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio, which I would love to visit someday.

Owned...but...

It's PO'Monday!

Yes, Celestial Paddy O'Malley owned me.

He took possession whenever he could.
PO'M: "I own you!"
PO'M: "Your lap is mine!"
PO'M: "Why are you giggling?"
I 'voiced' my opinion once in awhile.

Sly, My Guy

Whether I walk in morning or night, Sly hears me coming, and finds his way to the sidewalk for his fair share of worship.
Am very willing to provide the adoration!

What a September!

It's been a whirlwind of activity for me, since starting my new job.

The learning curve: very steep.

Missed some important visits with friends and family due to work pressures.

In addition, I've begun physical therapy for my often aching back.

Long story, but injuries from years ago finally made me decide to have experts teach me to tighten muscles and learn how to not re-injure myself.

Both of these stressful situations are gradually growing less so every day, yet that feeling of being behind the eight-ball isn't easy to forget.

And, as you other cat lovers know, I've had reduced time with Manny, Chili Bruce, and Sweetie.

The Hubby doesn't seem to notice that he too is without my company, but it's football season now, so...*wink*

Am grateful to friends who talk to me on the phone for hours, for family members who listen to my whingeing, to my various FB groups where I can chat about books, silly things, and the beauty of nature, and playing online jigsaw puzzles.

This weekend, I plan to spend time OUT OF DOORS; this always helps to balance me.

In addition, a few of the authors that I follow have new books coming out, so joy oh joy!

Don't let her fool you

Thank you all for your kind comments on our reaching our 9th Blogoversary.

I have so much fun here.
๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ’—
Since we missed it yesterday...it's Sweetnesday today!

Now, you may think Queen Sweet The First is a lazy, pampered housepanther.
You note that she is often photographed while snoozing...
...Often in the window, with sunshine warming her fur.
And yet, just who made these dusty paw prints on my laptop...on top of my desk?

And nope, you cannot say "Manny or Chili Bruce did it!" because they are locked downstairs, while only one cat is in the Sweetie Suite, formerly known as Angel's Apartment.

Which is where my office...er, um...desk and computers, monitors, cables, printer, piles of paperwork, etc. are.

Yep, that sleepy kitty is still mountain climbing!

Her placid image is a ruse; she's got mischief up her fur.

Along with her murder mitts...

My first blog post was September 22, 2013.

What fun we've had over the years!

I am passionate about cats, and even The Hubby is willing to wear a "Cat Dad" t-shirt, if I can find one that is tasteful enough for his surprisingly picky style.

Thank you, readers; I cannot do it without you!

I've made some wonderful friends via this blog, and am grateful to my family too, who read along despite not having cats in their lives right now.
It all started with the Ghost Cat statue, which appeared on our deck one night.

A kindly neighbor brought it over as a gift, but when her knock at the door got no response, she simply left it on our deck.

Later on, while sitting with our feral/stray clowder, I spied a white cat behind me!

In the dark, it looked alive, and I spent a few minutes trying to coax the 'new' cat to me.

A surprisingly large amount of time went by before I realized it was NOT a living thing.

Which is why it was named "Ghost Cat".

Note the broken ear, just like the notched ear of a feral, after TNR.

International Day of Peace

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September.

The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

But achieving true peace entails much more than laying down arms.

It requires the building of societies where all members feel that they can flourish.

It involves creating a world in which people are treated equally, regardless of their race.

I have begun to quiet my own mind in steps, by avoiding television and social media news.

In addition, being aware of negative and judgmental thoughts is a new process for me.

There is so very much to be thankful for.

While we all want to change the world, why not start at home?

Pas de Deux

It's Twozday!

Manny and Chili Bruce always find new napping combinations; it's like they are a dance team.
Am continually amazed at how the color of their fur changes in different lighting.

You can see Manny's underpants in the top two photos, but I won't bet on who is whom in the last one.

International Talk Like A Pirate Day

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate.

In 2015, cats gained their due respect with the co-celebration of Meow Like a Pirate Day. Since pirates are rarely seen without a cat or two (or ten) to keep rodents at bay on their man-o-war, it's only fitting to include them in today's festivities.

Sunday Tabby

PO'Monday moved a day early this week.

Celestial Paddy O'Malley didn't mind being the focus of my camera.

He knew how to pose.
He was a gorgeous goof.

As Seen on Foot

More 'hood cats!
Spike
He's a Lykoi, and lives in my neighborhood but this is my first time meeting him and his humans.
They are training him to walk on a leash.
Read about Lykoi cats here: Wikipedia.org: Lykoi
Stray kitten, who is cared for.
Unknown alley cat...yes, that's a real alley!
A chill owned cat; I hope to discover her name, but haven't worked up the nerve to just knock on the door and ask.

Friends, it amazes me how many new, not-seen-before cats that I meet day in and day out in my 'hood.

At least I consistently have material for new posts.

It's Good To Be The Queen

It's Sweetnesday!

Sweetie is the Queen of Eastside Cats, and long may she reign.
Sweetie: "Human, you are such a varlet!"
Sweetie: "Pull the slats into better order, vassal!"
Sweetie: "Well, yes...I do like the tissue paper that you've put inside this box top for me, lackey."
