Cats at The Museum

May 18 is International Museum Day, and this year the objective is to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

Have snapped photos of cats at art and natural history museums in my travels; here are a few:

The Graham Children, 1742
William Hogarth
The National Gallery, London
See the wee kitten watching the bird in the upper right?
Replica of Persian cat sculpture by
Richard H. Recchia
The Feline Historical Museum, Alliance, Ohio

Visit a museum; you'll learn something, I guarantee it.

Maneki Neko Day

Today, the 29th of September, Japan celebrates Maneki Neko (Beckoning Cat) Day.

Maneki Neko brings happiness, good luck, and wealth to homes, businesses, and their customers.

Why was the 29th of September chosen as Maneki Neko Day?

In Japanese, the number 9 is pronounced as KU and that sounds like this verb ‘kuru’ 来る meant COME.

Then, the number 2 is pronounced FU and as l mentioned before the number 9 is KU so we can make the word FUKU福with the number 29. That means GOOD LUCK.

The pronunciation of 9.29 can be written KURUFUKU来る福as ‘Good luck is coming’ and that is related to Maneki Neko.

We are thankful to have two Maneko Nekos at Eastside Cats.
The cutie on the red stand, with a Lucky Cat book tucked inside, was a gift from my neice.
The larger one was brought from Japan by my boss.

There is the Lucky Cat Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio, which I would love to visit someday.

Magoo Has Forgotten Me!

I last visited my sister and her family outside of Cincinnati, Ohio in early December, 2018.
At that time, Magoo was MY boyfriend!
Imagine my surprise...and dismay...when these photos were sent last night...

That's my mother, with Magoo draped all over her!
He's obviously forgotten me...*sob*
So, to counteract this loss of memory, I've made plans to travel to him...er, um...to my sister's, in a few weeks time.

Then, Magoo will remember that I am the light of his life, and he need not take up with any other human EVER again!

Just don't tell The PO'M, or Da Boyz...or Sly, Sneakers, Kiki, or Roscoe...

Above images taken by my brother

For the sake of 15 And Meowing Cat Blog, here is a jigsaw puzzle of Magoo!
