New Beginnings Animal Rescue

While not exactly a cat cafe, New Beginnings Animal Rescue allows a visitor to interact with all of the kitties.  Located in Royal Oak, Michigan, NBAR was established in 2010, and per their website: "We are completely run by volunteers, funded by donations, and powered by cat hair."

I visited NBAR last week for a fund-raising garage sale, and was given a site tour.  I didn't take photos of everything, but there are separate rooms for adult cats, kittens, new cats, and ornery cats.  In addition, there are display cages in the lobby, for those special cats that the staff know need even more interaction with humans.

"Lemme OUT!"

Working the "Puss In Boots" routine

Snowball, who broke my heart as he gazed at
me from behind bars.  He's partially blind, and FIV+,
but friendly as all get out.

Seriously, how can a person be sad while holding kittens?
Nope, it's impawssible!

Napping for these two was more impawtant than making
goo-goo eyes at any potential adopter.
Not only do they adopt out cats, they have a cat food bank, for folks who meet a minimum requirement, so their pets won't go hungry.  They are seriously anti-declaw also.

This weekend, NBAR is having Whiskers and Whimsy Art Show, from 4 to 7 pm tonight, and 12 to 4 pm Saturday.  Lucky for me, I will drive there straight after work today, and still be home for dinner without The Hubby knowing about my stop!  I am a sneak, aren't I?

Learned it from my cats...

Thankful Thursday: Pearl

I've posted about my neighbor's floofy black cat before, here and here.  Recently, she's become quite lovey dovey with me, as I stride past on my evening walk.  With one glance, I stop, drop down onto the sidewalk, and pet and coo over her until she decides to quit.  I've adopted the name 'Pearl' for this cutie, until someone inside the house EVER tells me her name.  She climbs in and out of the house via a slightly opened window, so she's being cared for.

I am thankful that this adorable kitty allows me to love her.  I tell her  that she can come to me, two doors down, if she needs anything.  Pearl knows where I live; she watches me go in and out of the front door, and no doubt can smell the food bowls on the deck out back.

Tie Dye Tuesday

Received some coolio tie dyed shirts from Katnip Lounge!
SCORE!

Angel

Manny

Chili Bruce

Me!
Disclaimer:
No cats...or humans...were harmed in the photo shoot of
these gorgeous creations!
All cats simply lounged photogenically while wearing their soft shirts.
The Hubby (who is a bonafide Hippie From The 60's) likes my
tie dyed shirt, so that is high praise indeed, and I LURV wearing multicolors!

Thanks SO MUCH to Trish and Scott!

The PO'M and I have the very BESTEST relationship!
Except when he's a snot to Sweetie...or my iPhone...
because I'm paying attention elsewhere.

Purrfect Pair Nail Clippers

When I saw this, I grabbed it and ran to the register!
While at a local shop, I spied these cat-shaped nail clippers for humans.  What I want to know is: who thinks this stuff up?  I didn't know that I needed cat-shaped nail clippers, but someone obviously did.  And where do I get that job?

Disclaimer: I bought these; received nothing for free, and am just showing it because I laughed out loud in the store when I found them!

Have a terrific weekend, y'all!

Thankful Thursday: Hand, Tub & Hearthrob

Today, I am thankful for:

I was official discharged from occupational
therapy yesterday.  My broken bones in my
left hand are healed, and I've got about as much
strength back as possible.  My ring finger and pinky
still ghost outward, and that may never change.
Still a bit swollen too, but the doc says
I've got a few more months to go for things to be normal.
My upstairs bathroom is back at work!
The plumbing and drain lines were updated,
and The Hubby put in new flooring.
Newspaper found under the floor was dated 1924.
More updates are in store, once we get the downstairs
bathroom ripped apart then rebuilt.
Sly greets me almost every day now, and what a gorgeous
kitty he is!  How gratifying to have this fluffalicous mancat
run up to me, then fall over to offer his tummy?
Seriously, this boy is a little slice of heaven, and only
15 minutes away on foot!  His humans don't even bother to
step out of their home anymore; they see me and (I'm sure) shake
their heads in dismay.  C'mon, look at him!

Wet, Woolly, Whiskery Wednesday

Every cat photo taken this morning came out woolly*, but there are whiskers!

Since I still needed whisker photos, here are my garden metal cats, with raindrops dangling from toes...but they've got kick-butt whiskers!

(The foliage in the background are lily-of-the-valley, which withered and died this summer.  Usually, this garden stays green until autumn.  We received a lot of rain yesterday and last night, thankfully.)

*The online thesaurus says 'woolly' is another term to use for 'blurry', and woolly works with 'W'et, 'W'hiskers, and 'W'ednesday...
