Devastation

Paddy O'Malley was hiding in a corner this morning; he'd had some serious bouts of diarrhea overnight.

He couldn't walk straight, having a wobble to his head, and he was breathing very, very hard.

Thankfully, our veterinarian's office found a way to get him into their schedule immediately.

The radiograph above shows that his lungs were full of stuff when there should have only been air, and there is a round lump.

No infection or reaction to meds caused this.

This is cancer, and there was no way back for him.

We let him run to The Rainbow Bridge.

My Paddy O!, my boyfriend, my ❤️ cat!

The Hubby and I devastated.

Was preparing a post to show how well he and Sweetie were getting along, and how all day yesterday, while in the jury box supposed to be concentrating on the evidence, I kept thinking about how lucky I was to be able to go home to his purrs and the tiny squeak he makes when asking for some snuggles.

Will be offline for awhile, as we try to adjust to a world that doesn't have Paddy O'Malley in it anymore.

Farewell, Angel Paddy!

You taught us how to love, and we received your love in return.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

  5. NOOOOO!!! Why is it all the man cats who I truly love go the that Bridge?? I wonder and shudder to think if him running off and dying by himself outside. I know he's known love for years but glad he knew a loving HOME.

  6. This just guts me. I know it does you all as well and all the rest of Paddy's loving friends here.

  7. Oh no!!! I am in tears reading this.
He got to enjoy a bit of comfy life indoors, but not as much as he deserves. Thanks to you, he will not be outdoors suffering. At least he had a happy taste of the good life indoors.
We will miss you SO much Paddy <3

  8. I have no words. This wasn't what any of us...especially you...expected. The only good thing, if there is any good in this, is that he went to the Bridge feeling loved. My heart breaks for you.

  9. I can't believe it. But it's not the first time I've seen a feral cat accept love and shelter after being resistant only to find they had a terminal illness. It's as if they look for the help they know they'll need, and to spend the little time they have left in the life they always wanted. I'm so sorry you had so little time to love on him and see him meet up with Sweetie, and I hope you'll share that someday. Take the time you need. We will all miss him too.

  10. I'm SO heartbroken to hear this news! I know how excited you were to finally get him inside. That precious little angel knew he would get the help he needed from you. Sending purrs and much love.

  11. We are so sorry to read this ! As "The Creative Cat" commented - PaddyO certainly knew and gave a tremendous amount of love in the short time you had together, and his few days inside must have given him added comfort and love. He was loved and appreciated from the moment he came to you, and was allowed to be there on his own terms. We are so sorry.

  14. I am so, so sorry. Karin Parker has kept me updated on Paddy O'Malley's new adventure in indoor living, and I am so sad to hear you had to say goodbye so soon. Sending you a ton of love and comfort--you took such wonderful care of him for all these many years, and he loved and trusted you so much. I am so glad he had you there with him when his time came. Gigi and Buddy and I send you love and purrs, and we know Spitty was right there to greet him on the Other Side.

  15. Vicky, I am just heartbroken over this dreadful and unexpected news. I am glad Paddy found his way to you long before this, and happy he found his way into the home you'd unfailingly tried to offer him. He knew he was so loved, and he returned every bit of it. Peace be with you and the Hubby during this awful time.

  17. You are now undertaking the long journey through grief. While others may share that grief we all walk it alone. There are no right or wrong paths, no proper way to carry oneself on the trek, no set amount of time to complete it. Some steps will come easier than others. There will be rogue waves of grief that you won’t see coming, and knock you back days. But you will come through it. If you get lost let us know. We have been through it before and we might be able to help you find the way out.

  18. We are also devastated and without words. We are just so glad he came Inside in these last days and got loads of lubbin. You ALWAYS did right by him - letting him be outside as he wanted, then his brief period indoors, and then the final awful but kindest decision which is so heartbreaking. We will watch for him in the Northern Lights and are sending you many purrs and much love.

  19. I am utterly heartbroken over this. It's a very sad day here too. I was so looking forward to seeing him have a happy life indoors. Lots and lots of purrs to you.

  20. How terrible this is, when a new life was ready for him inside. But I can't help thinking that he allowed you to take him inside - or something allowed you - so that he would have someone to let him go, to know it was time to say 'good-bye'. But none of that helps when it hurts so much. Godspeed, PO'M.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh no! My heart breaks for you, Vicky. I also believe that he knew something was seriously wrong and allowed you to take him inside where he knew you would help him when the time came. Life is so cruel when you had achieved your heart's desire to make him an inside cat, then time was cut so cruelly short. I am crying buckets of tears for you and Paddy. I send lots of love and hugs.

  22. Gone too soon, we hardly got to know you. Yet such a blessing that he had come into your home at this special time, to be with you. Love works in mysterious ways and somehow, as heartbreaking as this is, he was not meant to be alone at this time. He gave you to you, you gave to him, that will last forever. With love and in sadness, we share in your loss.

  23. We are so furry sorry - but at least he didn't die alone and he was granted enough time to know what Love is.

  24. Vicky, I am heartbroken for you. You gave Paddy O'Malley such a blessed life full of love. He will always remember this, and he will always be with you. I wish I could do or say more to make this better, but please know that I am praying for you.

  35. I saw your FB post yesterday and couldn't believe it, the news was, as you said devastating. I thought about it all day, couldn't really take it in. I kept hoping it was someone hacking into your account with bad intentions and when I went to this blog today it wouldn't be true. Most cats hide themselves when they are dying. Your Paddy wanted to spend his last days with the beings he loved most in the world. I am so very glad you got those days inside together and so very glad that you shared this amazing cat with us all. We're crying along with you and will miss him so very much. Hugs.
