Aww, Nuts!

October 22 is International Nut Day!

"A day to support small nut farmers around the world, educate consumers about the many benefits of nuts, and encourage healthier snacking."

When I searched my library for nut images, here's what was found:

😹
Exactly!

Especially humorous for someone who worked in the automotive fastener business.

Pecan nut on the floor, being used as a cat toy.

The Hubby and I have chopped walnuts with our morning oatmeal, and I personally cannot pass up a chance to snack on cashews.

We also keep a supply of raw almond butter around.

Over the winter holidays, we manage to score a bag or two of roasted pistachios.

Eastside Cats is a nut patron, and is thankful for them.

Sun and Moon

A new Walkin' and Readin' Wednesday.

King Sly, soaking in the sun!

Window kitty.

Crescent Moon.

👣 👣 👣

Audiobooks that I recommend:

Moonbound, by Robin Sloan
Narrated by Gabra Zackman

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore Series:

Book #.5: Ajax Penumbra
Book #1: Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
Book #2: Moonbound

My two-cents: What happens when San Francisco, California, time-travel, hidden knowledge, and stories that just cannot be ignored get shaken, not stirred, then along comes a writer who will tell the tale?  Consider reading the books in order, for the timeline flow.  Oh yeah, there are dragons.

Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelley Armstrong
Narrated by Helen Laser, Sean Patrick Hopkins, and Shane Ghostkeeper

My two cents: Whoa, a dark and stormy night, in the woods, where the GPS doesn't work.  She sees a woman in the road, but no, that's a fallen log she hit.  Then a pick-up crashes, and there are two stunned people who need help.  Except the woods are creepy, yet there's a building 'way back...will it provide help?  Yeah, this was a ton of fun, and perfect horror for this time of year.

Let the Dead Sleep by Michael Wood
Narrated by Gemma Whelan

My two cents: Crime reporter Holly's sister was murdered 25 years earlier, and she was trying to forget that past, until her mother asks her to find the killer as her dying wish.  Great suspense, and a terrific whodunnit, as Holly fights her fears and the police, while the murderer gets close...very, very close.

Squatchy

October 20 is 'Tocktober, in honor of Angel Derby at Books, Hooks and Yarn.

Derby is now at the Rainbow Bridge, as is his brofur Ducky, but we are sure that Dobby is carrying on the tradition.

CB, 'tocks & yawn!

Henry

Manny

October 20 is National Sasquatch Awareness Day.

Yes, it's always best to be on the look-out for Sasquatch!

Two Years!

October 18 is Henry's Gotchaversary; we brought him inside from outside two years ago.

He'd simply appeared in our backyard, then he stuck around.

Someone had already TNR'd him

Henry was very scared for the first year inside, then we took him for a dental at the vet's.

He returned that afternoon a changed cat, as the staff told me how they petted him, and he responded.

He's been a sweet kitty since.

Using my arm as his pillow.

No cares in the world.

And he's eating!

Henry's finished his chemo.

Have hit a span of time where he's eating what we set out, and his 'output' is solid.

Here's hoping we've got years and years ahead of us!

❤️ Love you, Henry The 9th ❤️

Thanks to the Cat Distribution System for pointing him our way.

Sweet Pasta of Olden Days...?

October 17th is:

International Archeology Day...

...The third Saturday in October is Sweetest Day...

...and National Pasta Day!

😹 😹 😹

For Caturday, may I humbly submit Mr. Chili Bruce, as he intently watched out the window.

I used my Prisma app, with the Corn filter.

TNR All Bosses

October 16 is National Feral Cat Day!

If you feed them, fix them.

Suggestion: take a TNR class at your local rescue or veterinarian's office.

"Trapping" is a scary word, yet the second you secure a cat in a humane trap, you'll want to do it again!

We cannot adopt our way out of this crisis.

🐈 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

October 16 is also National Bosses Day.

Being retired means that I no longer have a boss who signs my paycheck, however I have three male cats and The Hubby, so they try to boss me around plenty!

Under Siege

October 15 is Medieval Siege Engine Day!

No harm in an onager or catapult between friends from time to time, amIright?

All of the cool kids have medieval siege engines, like Colehaus Cats:

I, for one, am thankful for goofy holidays, because...why not?

It's Colorful

Walkin' and Readin' Wednesday!

A few four-footed furries, caught on my neighborhood walk:

👣 👣 👣

Recently listened to audiobooks that I highly recommend:

Villians Series, by V. E. Schwab
Narrated by Jeremy Arthur

Book #1: Vicious
Book #2: Vengeful
Book #3: Victorious

My two cents: A modern-day tale of college friends who help each other obtain superpowers, called EO's or ExtraOrdinaries, yet end up opposing each other when left to their own devices. Just whom is on the wrong side?

Scream With Me: Horror Films and the Rise of American Feminism, by Eleanor Johnson
Narrated by Andi Arndt and the author

My two cents: Non-fiction history of women's roles in horror films from 1968 to 1980 at the start of the women's liberation movement, and how Hollywood's misogynistic directors began to shift in step with the more open-minded social and political views and laws.  Some of the real horror happened off camera.

Films explored:
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
The Exorcist (1973)
The Stepford Wives (1975)
The Omen (1976)
Alien (1978)
The Shining (1980)

Talking to Strangers: What We Should Know About the People We Don’t Know by Malcolm Gladwell
 Narrated by the author

My two cents: Non-fiction audiobook on why our interactions with people we don't know can go wrong.

Silly Nom

It's Twozday!

Due to seasonal temperature changes, Da Boyz have migrated to the huge corner beddy.

And yet, they still break away for some alone time.

Manny, on top of the fridge again.

CB, enjoying the morning sunrise.

🌞

Da Boyz health update:

Both REALLY enjoy their daily muscle mass booster chews.

We've removed seafood from their diets, although Manny has now become rather picky about what he'll eat.

No worries, we're dealing with this by:

1) Allowing Manny to walk away from his meal, then going back to it as many times as it takes for him to finish.

2) Introducing new flavors carefully, but no cat liked the lamb (The Hubby picked it, not me!)

3) Sometimes, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast inspires him to munch.

4) Simply feeding Manny in the kitchen corner, away from his brofur.

Nothing works 100% of the time, so we stay flexible and gently coax him back to his bowl.

Okay, the truth...I've grumbled a bit at having to police Manny, as I feel that I'm the cause of his reluctance to nom.

Isn't that silly?

Thanks for the Clay

🍁 Happy Thanksgiving, Canada, celebrated annually on the second Monday in October. 🇨🇦

Despite some a controversial holidays today, one as mandated by some U.S. Federal bureaucrats, and which we are going to ignore*, it's the birthday of Art Clokey, (October 12, 1921-January 8, 2010), the pioneering stop-motion clay animator.

His "The Gumby Show" aired from 1956 to 1969, and someone...*ahem*...had Gumby and Pokey dolls up until they melted (by accident!) when she and The Hubby were dating JUST a little while ago!

Television Gumby, with his trusty sidekick Pokey, were claymation characters, while the toys were plastic with an internal wire frame to make them bendable.

Found on the interwebs, the toy versions of Gumby and Pokey.

OH NO!

😹

*Okay, it's Columbus Day, also Indigenous Peoples' Day, also Discoverers Day, plus the communities that don't celebrate at all.
