A few thoughts, and I know that I'm talking to like-minded folks:

 -If you feed them, fix them.

-If you adopt, be aware that you are making a multi-year commitment, which includes food, shelter, and veterinary services.

-There is no pressure on anyone to have pets; if your lifestyle doesn't support the care that a pet needs, then visit a cat cafe' or rescue once in awhile.

-Roll up your sleeves and volunteer.

-Donate!

-We cannot adopt our way out of the overpopulation.

-Puppy and kitten mills must be eliminated.

Henry Update:

He's holding his own.

On Tuesday, he was at 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest.

Friday, I'd rate him at 6.5, but the force is strong in Henry!

Cannot imagine how I'd handle this if I was working full-time still, and you know what?

My old team has been called back into the office, rather than working remotely.

Glad to be off of that merry-go-round, but it's fun to meet up for lunch with my former co-workers to catch up once in awhile.

Today is Celebrate Shelter Pets Day!

Always on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, to me this event boils down to Adopt Don't Shop. 

Funnily enough, of the eight cats that we've hosted at Eastside Cats, only two were adopted; all others were delivered free of charge by the Cat Distribution System, in our backyard.

Our anipal shelters need our help; please donate money and your time as you can.

This year, it's December 5.

 The last Tuesday in February is World Spay Day.

Let's draw attention to the importance of spaying and neutering pets during a time when many animals begin to reproduce in the spring.

At the Ice Sculpture event in downtown Mount Clemens, Michigan.

And adopt, don't shop.

Trap - Neuter - Return Works.

We know this, so spread the word.

Chat up a neighbor, the person next to you at the bookstore or library, the cashier when you buy you lottery tickets.

Sure, having a celebrity say it is great, yet the lone soldier on the battlefield can have an impact too.

Too many pets die in shelters.

We are their voice.

We can influence others to adopt, and not shop.

There are plenty of moggies and purebred animals available!

Join the Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement

Remember Me Thursday® is a global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.

On September 28, 2017, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. In 2016, people using #RememberTheRescue and #RememberMeThursday reached nearly 340 million people on social media.

Can we get even more people sharing the importance of pet adoption in 2017?

It’s up to you to spread the word.

Event Creator Mike Arms

Meet Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center, and creator of both the International Pet Adoptathon and the Home 4 The Holidays program which, in partnership with international animal organizations, has placed over 13 million pets in homes since 1999.

Mike Arms, on why he created Remember Me Thursday, “My heart breaks for those beautiful people working in animal welfare who are forced to take the lives of the pets they love. I believe lighting a candle for the orphan pets will be a way for people to let the world know how much they love them, and the awareness can help in increasing adoptions and decreasing euthanasia.”

Angel and Chuck came to us via informal adoption, meaning we removed them from the home where their mother was unspayed and had had multiple litters of unwanted kittens.  Our kittens were spayed and neutered just as soon as they were old enough.  And since then, I have become active with TNR, as a result of stray cats appearing in our backyard, and in my office parking lot.

Vacation Travels: Ferndale Catfe' Lounge

The Catfe' Lounge (more info here) is located in the city of Ferndale, in Metro Detroit.  The Lounge is part of The Ferndale Cat Shelter, and is specifically aimed at getting cats adopted by placing them in a open setting, where guests and prospective adopters can interact.  Tea and coffee are available, as well as wonderful sitting areas and plenty of cat toys.  The Catfe' Lounge has been open for years now, but last week was the first time I was able to visit, and I was please with how much the volunteers love the cats.  My friend BG (a cat lover with more cats than me!) and I came away knowing that this was a quality set up, and are proud of the work they do.

Anyone who wants to go to The Catfe' Lounge in Ferndale, Michigan...let me know!  I'll escort you there and we'll have a grand time.  While BG and I played with the kittens, a couple of young men dropped in, and they had cats in their laps in a twinkling of the eye!  I am sorry that I did not get the cats names for this post, but hopefully they've all been adopted now, and a new crop are in their place.
