2/28/23 World Spay Day

Celebrated on the last Tuesday in February, World Spay Day shines a light on the need to spay or neuter companion and stray cats and dogs.

We cannot adopt our way out of the animal overpopulation.
We know we are preaching to the choir here, however we can each do our part:

-Chat up neighbors and friends, convince them to get their pets neutered.
-Support your local low-cost spay/neuter clinics.
-Become a foster for your favorite animal shelter or rescue.

Thank you!

World Kitten Day

July 10 is World Kitten Day!

National Kitten Day, also known as World Kitten Day, is the official worldwide holiday, celebrated July 10th annually - to celebrate the magic of kittens and encourage adoption worldwide.

Founded in 2012 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige.

In honor of the day, we dug out some kitten pics of Celestial Angel.
The first two photos were after Angel had her spay surgery.

She was beautiful, and her black-and-white-and-pink coloring was lovely.

Her fur was so soft; we called it 'bunny fur'.

Below are a few silly kitten memes that I've collected from social media.

Our blogging friend Binky earned her Angel wings, and we have the sads.

Happy Cat Momma's Day!

Spay and neuter your pets, so they don't need to celebrate this particular holiday.

Raising kids is the hardest job on the planet, in my opinion!

Remember Me Thursday: September 28, 2017

Join the Remember Me Thursday® Awareness Movement

Remember Me Thursday® is a global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.

On September 28, 2017, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. In 2016, people using #RememberTheRescue and #RememberMeThursday reached nearly 340 million people on social media.

Can we get even more people sharing the importance of pet adoption in 2017?

It’s up to you to spread the word.

Event Creator Mike Arms
Meet Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center, and creator of both the International Pet Adoptathon and the Home 4 The Holidays program which, in partnership with international animal organizations, has placed over 13 million pets in homes since 1999.

Mike Arms, on why he created Remember Me Thursday, “My heart breaks for those beautiful people working in animal welfare who are forced to take the lives of the pets they love. I believe lighting a candle for the orphan pets will be a way for people to let the world know how much they love them, and the awareness can help in increasing adoptions and decreasing euthanasia.”

Angel and Chuck came to us via informal adoption, meaning we removed them from the home where their mother was unspayed and had had multiple litters of unwanted kittens.  Our kittens were spayed and neutered just as soon as they were old enough.  And since then, I have become active with TNR, as a result of stray cats appearing in our backyard, and in my office parking lot.

Folks Helping Community Cats

Maingee
Callie and Bootsie
These three pretty babies are community cats, tended to by a co-worker and his neighbor.  He is concerned about the super cold weather we are having.  I gave him a bag full of straw, and an old foam cooler shelter that belonged to Sammy, may he rest in peace.  My co-worker said he may even allow Maingee in his laundry room overnight, even though he is quite allergic to cats.  I suggested that he consider taking her to the veterinarian, since he's got her in his grip...so to speak.  His kids love this cat; she's quite friendly and she can be picked up and snuggled.  The neighbor next door leaves his garage door open, so the cats have a place to go that's out of the weather.  Isn't it great to know that we aren't the only ones?

If we all...everyone of us who love cats...talk to other folks about spay and neuter, then someday there will be less cats killed in the shelters due to overcrowding.  We can put an end to the needless cruelty of too many cats roaming the streets, if people would just spay or neuter their animals.  Talk to your friends, your family, the guy standing behind you at the coffee shop!  Say it nicely, say it loudly, say it like you mean it...say it however you want to!  Spay or Neuter your pets!  Spay or Neuter your pets!  Spay or Neuter your pets!  As a world community, we HAVE to learn to be humane, and until they come up with another way of sterilizing, rather than surgery, we must press on. Your voice could get one person to take their animal to the vet, and lives can be saved.
