Henry's Health Update:

He gave me a fright by not eating much all day, but managed to eat up a goodly portion after his 8 PM meds.

The pooplogs I was so pleased about have turned back into loose stuff, yet the B12 sprinkled into his food just started a few days ago; best give it a bit longer to see if he adapts.

Henry got a spa treatment on Wednesday; a good combing, and then brushies.

He LURVs to bunt his noggin against any part of a human he can reach, and he's so cute.

Rant:

And what to do about Columbus Day, celebrated in the US and other countries?

The Europe-centric idea behind this date, although certainly the Italian diaspora is entitled to venerate Christopher Columbus, feels terribly old-fashioned.

Many US communities have changed the holiday to Indigenous Peoples Day, or don't acknowledge it at all anymore.

It's not a day off from work, although the US Postal Service and banks are closed, so it's really a sort of mess.

Alternatively, there are indications that Norse settlers 'found' North America in the 1000's, and Polynesian and Japanese travelers may also have landed centuries before Columbus.

In Michigan, there is evidence of Phoenician expeditions, which match with petroglyphs found near Toronto, Canada.

There is a heavy bias towards 'nothing was there until Europeans noticed it' that is sophomoric in this day and age.  

Just sayin'...

End rant.

Funnily enough, this time of year makes me fretful, as I consider the colder overnight temperatures on our outside cats over the years.

Seriously, I think it's why I've begun to say out loud, "I hate Winter!", when it's really the worry for me and my loved ones to stay warm and cared for.

This anxiety has been a part of our lives since 2009 or so with our first outside cat Celestial Hobo, and may have diminished a bit after Celestial Paddy left us and Celestial Sweetie was happily ensconced inside, and yet now we have Henry to consider.
