Cat Lady Day!

National Cat Lady Day is celebrated on April 19.

Made a slideshow of a few of the cats that I've shot ussies with:

And...it's Caturday!

Ussie of Sly and me, and I simply tweaked the color a tiny bit in iPhoto.

Just Tip It

National Feral Cat Day® is 16 October

Alley Cat Allies created National Feral Cat Day in 2001 as a call to action to raise awareness about community cats (also called feral or stray cats), promote Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and empower the millions of compassionate people around the United States who care about cats and kittens to drive change on their behalf.

We cannot adopt our way out of the cat overpopulation; sterilizing community cats is the only choice we have to save their lives.

Veterinary and scientific professionals are at work to find a non-surgical procedure to sterilize cats: read about it here.

Huge thanks to the low-cost spay/neuter clinics, local rescue and foster groups; the public who've attended TNR classes and care for their own clowders; the relentless advocacy of national groups like Alley Cat Allies and Best Friends, plus the countless TNR groups in every city, and every state.

We love our cats, so why not love ALL cats?

Remember Me Thursday and Blogoversary

Shine a light on orphan pets waiting for forever homes.

My first blog post was September 22, 2013.

What fun we've had over the years!

I am passionate about cats, and even The Hubby is willing to wear a "Cat Dad" t-shirt, if I can find one that is tasteful enough for his surprisingly picky style.

Thank you, readers; I cannot do it without you!

I've made some wonderful friends via this blog, and am grateful to my family too, who read along despite not having cats in their lives right now.
It all started with the Ghost Cat statue, which appeared on our deck one night.

A kindly neighbor brought it over as a gift, but when her knock at the door got no response, she simply left it on our deck.

Later on, while sitting with our feral/stray clowder, I spied a white cat behind me!

In the dark, it looked alive, and I spent a few minutes trying to coax the 'new' cat to me.

A surprisingly large amount of time went by before I realized it was NOT a living thing.

Which is why it was named "Ghost Cat".
😹😹😹
Note the broken ear, just like the notched ear of a feral, after TNR.

A Yorkie Tail...er, Tale

This is not my photo, since it all happened too fast for me to snap a photo!
Found this on the interwebs...it said it was free...and it's a close approximation of the wee doggo that I hugged for a few moments.

While on my lunchtime neighborhood walk, I found a wandering doggo!

No tags, no collar.

The only human nearby was a man mowing his lawn across the street.

He kindly turned his machine off as I approached, and explained that he knew every dog on the street, but didn't recognize this one!

Determined to do the right thing, I picked up the wee one, and headed back toward the yard that I'd seen the dog come from.

After only taking a few steps, another dude came out from around a nearby house, said he was working on a car, and that his dog had wandered away!

My fastest rescue yet; not a whole ten minutes...

The man thanked me, and I waived at the mowing man, and resumed my walk.

Today, I am thankful for the many wonders that I encounter; it's astounding to be alive!

Remember Me Thursday #RememberMeThursday #SeeTheLight

DID YOU KNOW?

Over 1 Million pets are euthanized annually. That number has consistently decreased in the last decade.

It is proven that the more awareness we bring to orphan pets results in: 1) Adoptions Increasing, 2) Euthanasia Decreasing, and 3) Puppy Mill Sales Decreasing.

Visit Remember Me Thursday to discover events held today in your area!

Shining a light on shelter animals, who are still looking for their furrever homes.

Our stories:

Every cat at Eastside Cats was adopted!

Adopted from a home with too many kittens (Celestial Angel and Chuck), from the street and alley (Hobo, Sweetie, Sammy, and Paddy O'Malley), and from a shelter (Manny and Chili Bruce).

Having volunteered at cat adoption events, I know that not everyone is ready to invite a cat into their home, but that isn't the only way to help shelter kitties!

-Volunteer at a local shelter or humane society.

-Discuss the horrors of puppy and kitten mills with folks you know; you'd be surprised at how little information is in the general public.

-For those of us with TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) experience, reaching out to assist folks who need help with ferals or strays, could be a life-changing experience for the cats and those who don't know what to do.

I am thankful for the loving animal community for pressing forward, day after day, to make the voices of the shelter animals heard!

Postcards from Meow Meet Up: Windy Kitty Cat Cafe

For more information, click on Windy Kitty Cat Cafe

This was a super cat cafe!  A volunteer was in the room with guests at all times, and every kitten and cat that I encountered appeared to be in purrfect shape, healthwise.  The amount of human visitors is carefully limited, to reduce an overload of grabby-hands from invading the cat space.  There was a lot of delightful artwork on the walls too, however I didn't snap any photos of it, 'cause I was just in love with the cats that roamed around.  I really liked Windy Kitty Cat Cafe!

Need Help! Found Kitten!

On my way to work, I took a road less traveled, and witnessed this kitten running across a three-lane highway!  Fortunately, the kitten was on the grass when I pulled my car over and chased her down. Because I had that extra carrier in my trunk, I put her inside and turned around and drove home.  This little baby is now in my garage, with one of my shirts as a bed and a bowl of canned food.

I am calling out to any rescue group in Metro Detroit...or anywhere...HALP!  The health problems we have with Chuck right now make this the most imperfect time to foster for my family.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out to help me find a place for this cutie!  I've contacted two rescue groups so far; they are full.  C'mon folks...please!

Thank you!

P.S. Don't know if it's a boy or girl, and my guess is 3-4 weeks old.  A bit of hissing, but both The Hubby and I can handle the kitten!
