Profound Find

While driving to work on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, a wee kitten was running around the four-lane road in front of me.

I pulled the car over, parked on the gravel road edge, and found her hiding in the tall, wet grass.

She was small, and unharmed.

Weirdly, I had a spare cat carrier in my trunk, so she was safe and sound quickly.

We could not take in a wee kitten at that time, and thankfully, an kitten foster acquaintance offered to care for her that afternoon.  

Played with the little one while visiting the foster's place a few days later.

Last I'd heard, the kitten had been adopted.

The boss didn't even notice that I was late to work.

We cannot adopt our way out of the cat overpopulation; sterilizing community cats is the only choice we have to save their lives.

Luna Negra

So very thankful for fosters, and those willing to help.

Let me introduce Luna Negra, who appeared on a friend's front porch recently.

She was hungry, covered with matted fur, plus various ride-along insects.

Luna is about two years old, was spayed when found, is playful and warms up to humans in a trice.

She's a lap cat.

Luna will probably be happier as an only cat, and perhaps without small children around.

Her fur is the softest fluff you've ever touched.

Luna's foster is in Metro Detroit, Michigan, and some transportation can be negotiated.

What a cute wee princess; look at those whiskers and pretty eyes.

Peppy and All About Animals Rescue

Folks, I am so very thankful for All About Animals Rescue.

When I began on my TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) odyssey with George, then Hobo, etc., I couldn't have done it without the TNR training that I received, and the low cost spay/neuter clinic that AAAR provides.

Over the years, I've volunteered with AAAR, and carry a stack of their cards with me to pass along to anyone interested.

From AAAR:

"A quarter of a million cats and dogs were fixed at All About Animals Rescue since forming in 2005. 
34,106 pets were sterilized in 2019. 

The rescue subsidizes about 42% of these patients each year."

Peppy is currently being fostered, and looking for his furrever home.

He's a young guy, full of energy and cattitude!

His foster thinks Peppy would do best as an only cat.

The kitten that I picked up from a busy street in September 2015, has gone to her furrever home!  She has a cat brother who is just a few months older, and a human who is over the moon with her two new fur babies.  I hope to get updates someday.

Super huge gratitude to my friend who fostered this 3-week old baby within hours of the rescue; she recognized immediately that the baby needed milk and mothering, to get her strong and growing. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

More Found Kitten Info

I visited my friend, the kind and sweet woman, who took in our found kitten.  I tried to take photos of the now fluffy and round kitty, but she wriggles and squirms and wants down, so many of them came out blurry.  I am told she is now transitioning to wet food, with kitten formula mixed in.  She is head-strong, this little beauty!

The last two photos were attempts to show her remarkable feet: each with white socks, but black pads.  Adorable!  May be some Persian in there; her face is broad and short-nosed.  A cutie little tuxedo sweetie!

Found Kitten Update

Just a quick note to tell you all that the cosmic tumblers clicked into place for the kitten yesterday, and a foster appeared as if by magic.  Consensus is that this baby is 3-1/2 to 4 weeks old, and too young to be without mama's milk.  Covered in fleas and mud, the kitten drank about three tablespoons of formula at first go.  The Hubby and I were very worried when the kitten ate no food, but neither of us have any experience with little, little kittens like this guy.  Or girl...I'm sure I'll learn a lot more soon.

I did not sleep last night, thinking of how everything transpired:

1) I drove down a road I rarely take for my morning commute
2) Had a fresh, clean carrier in the trunk
3) Had contacts around Metro Detroit that were galvanized to help out
4) The Hubby pitched in and helped me to help the kitten
5) A surprise foster appeared, when I was sure none would be found for another couple of days or even weeks

Thank you all for your good wishes; I'm sure I'll have updates on the kitten's progress!

P.S. I drove down the same street again today, with my eyes peeled for any mama cat or other kittens running around.  Saw nothing, but I'll continue to eye-ball the area at every chance I get!  Only a mile from my accident in January, and on the same road.  What is the cosmos trying to tell me?

After weeks of mourning the loss of Loretta/Shadow, I screwed up my courage and drove out to visit her at the big box store.  The Paws for the Cause folks were incredibly nice, allowing me to hold her, and we played and hung out together for a long time.  She's doing fine, and seems to like to negotiate the small store enclosure.  She has been taken to a foster home too, so she's not 'trapped' inside the store enclosure all of the time.  We watched her introduce herself to a new kitty who had just been brought in, and she was quiet and tentative, but no aggression or fear.

Although I miss her in the house, one worry has now slipped from my mind.  I was informed that a person has already sent in an adoption application for her.  And while I stood there chatting about ferals (these folks are a fabulous resource!), many, MANY folks walked by to look over the kittens and other cats available for adoption.  Mind you, Paws for the Cause carefully screens potential adopters, and they will take extra care that Loretta/Shadow goes to a really good home.

Of course, the kittens are so squee that I wanted to hug and smooch every one.  Several of the older cats are so pretty, that people just couldn't help but stop and stare.  One black-and-white boy drew so many lookee-loos that I was sure someone was going to adopt him on the spot!  I hope the coming year will bring many adopters to welcome these cats into their hearts and homes.
