The Island Cats

I visited The Lady with the Yellow Hair and Ernie, at The Island Cats!

Actually, we have visited often, since we are both residents of Metro Detroit, Michigan, but due to the pandemic, we've only been corresponding by texts and emails for too long.

A wonderful chinwag was had; just us two cat ladies, and one housepanther who desired his own company.

Below are some images taken from other outings that Sue and I have been on together, and I am thankful for her friendship and mentorship, as I've slowly navigated my way in the cat blogging world.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my good fortune to have traveled several times to do wonderful cat things in 2019!

Moe is as mellow as can be, and his fur is a delight to get one's hands on.  Such a handsome mancat...look at those eyes, those whiskers, the white paws!

I am thankful that I attended Meow MeetUp Chicago, and I have more wonderful cat information that I gathered there to post about in the future.  Thanks to Sue from The Island Cats for including me, and to the other bloggers that I hung out with:

Folks, I've been a fan of SparkleCat Featuring Summer for a long time, and had hoped to meet Summer in the fur one day.  Imagine my excitement, when Summer and her human Janiss were at Meow Meet Up Chicago!

Funny enough, I have photos of Summer, but none of Janiss...not even from her birthday dinner!  

Sorry about that, Janiss.  

So, here are a few pics (I took a TON!) of Summer, Therapy Cat and Kitty on the Go!

This wee tortie was all over the place, and was non-stop adorable!

The Catcade in Chicago, Illinois is a unique cat cafe'; they have old-fashioned video game shells placed all around, and the cats climb in and out, like they are prizes for a high game score!  Arcade=Catcade...get it?  Visitors are asked to NOT pick up any of the cats, and it was VERY DIFFICULT to not scoop up some of the babies.  The Catcade is the largest cat cafe' that I've visited so far.  I liked their unique spin on making a fun place for adopting cats.

And yes, that bowl of kittens...two black, two ginger...was incredibly hard to resist!  🐈😻💖

Lykoi is a Brand New Breed of Cats

Sorry, my photos are so poor, but...kittens!

I spent some time with a breeder of Lykoi cats, from Wisconsin.  She displayed the kittens in the Cat Fanciers Association area at Meow MeetUp Chicago in July.

Seriously, these are kittens...adorable, playful baby cats, with a little or no underfur.  Therefore, some parts of their skin is exposed, especially around their face and paws.  According to what I've researched, this was an natural mutation.  Their fur is soft, and that warm skin just completely melted my heart!

After only a few moments, I fell in LURV!

I am proud to say that my favorite breed is RESCUED, but I'll always have a fillip of desire for a Lykoi cat, now that I've played with these two.  They are beautiful, unique, and I am so glad that I had the chance to meet them in the fur...skin...well, you know what I mean!

I have the contact information for the breeder; actually, we chatted for a good long while.

This was a super cat cafe!  A volunteer was in the room with guests at all times, and every kitten and cat that I encountered appeared to be in purrfect shape, healthwise.  The amount of human visitors is carefully limited, to reduce an overload of grabby-hands from invading the cat space.  There was a lot of delightful artwork on the walls too, however I didn't snap any photos of it, 'cause I was just in love with the cats that roamed around.  I really liked Windy Kitty Cat Cafe!

What a lovely building!
Lots of light.

Volunteers play and do enrichment exercises with ALL of the cats in residence.
This board helps them keep track of what's next on the playlist.

A resident, hoping for a home.
There are multiple cat rooms, all surrounded with glass, and each with a safety balcony so cats can breath fresh air whenever they wish.  The cats are placed in the rooms according to age, temperament, and any health items.

Alana Grelyak may be better known for the series CATastrophes on YouTube.
She now works full-time for Tree House Humane Society, and it was a delight to meet her and chat about CATS!  I was a trifle star-struck, but Alana is such a terrific person that I got over myself quickly.

I am so very glad to have visited their new building.  It's light and airy; a delight!  I'd venture to say that every other cat rescue will use Tree House as their touchstone.  There is a veterinarian on site, and are opening an off-the-street clinic, which will include low-cost spay and neuter.  Plus, you can stop to have a cup of coffee, and visit with a select number of ready-to-adopt cats.

Folks, we cannot put an end to the overpopulation of cats in shelters and rescues by adoption alone!  We need the world to understand that spay and neuter is the answer.
