Bring The Luck

September 29 is Maneki Neko Day in Japan.

The beckoning cat figurine or statue is considered to be a talisman of good luck.

The date itself is a clever wordplay – "9" (ku) and "2" (fu) can be read as "kuru fuku," meaning "come, good fortune."

While visiting the Feline Historical Museum in Alliance, Ohio in 2019, there was a display of unique and beautiful Maneki Neko.

Big or small, we all could use a Maneki Neko or two around...in a location, of course, where our cats cannot get their paws on them.

Cat Museums

Your Guide to the World's Cat Museums

By no means does the above site list all cat-based museums, but it's a great place to start!

In yesterday's post, I mentioned The Lucky Cat Museum, which is listed on the website above.

I will visit there someday, however I have visited another museum noted:

Feline Historical Museum, in Alliance, Ohio.

Here are a few images of items that were on display:

The collection is housed in a former bank building, with a cat puppet collection displayed in the vault.

Have you visited a cat museum?  Mention it in your comments!

Am collecting tons of cat items myself; perhaps starting my own cat museum is in my future.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my good fortune to have traveled several times to do wonderful cat things in 2019!

In March, I visited Loganberry Books in Cleveland, Ohio:

This is Otis, who lives at Loganberry Books!

On that same trip, we visited the Cat Fanciers Association Feline Historical Museum in Alliance, Ohio:

Outdoor cat shelter designed by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright

I also attended the 2019 CatVideo Fest at the Detroit Film Theater:

The shirt I wore to the CatVideo Fest!

I had the delightful experience of meeting Beatrice Friedlander and her husband Donald, who run Attorneys For Animals at the All About Animals Rescue Gala in April:

Advocates for Michigan's animals!

May caught me traveling in Colorado, and had the great pleasure of meeting Glogirly, Waffles and Katie:

Waffles carefully investigated my bag; Glogirly made sure he didn't climb in and leave with me!

The Meow Meetup in Chicago occured in July, and it was SO MUCH FUN!
Here's only one link to the multiple ones that I posted:
I've even taken a class on how to read Tarot Cards now

Visiting Black Cat Pottery is always a treat, this time in August:
This is Pandora, Dora for short
Or should we just say, ADORABLE?!?

Another film festival, The New York Cat Film Festival, arrived in September:

Seen at the Royal Oak Main Art Theater
A November visit to the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium in Toledo, Ohio was fantastic:

And in December, I visited my other boyfriend...Magoo!

Such grace and style; Magoo had eye only for me

Thank you for joining me on my journey back through 2019!
Where will I go in 2020?

Postcard: CFA Feline Historical Museum

Had a TON OF FUN!  The building is full of cat artwork: statues in stone and glass, carvings, ceramics, dolls, maneki nekos (Japanese beckoning cat), plates, quilts, teapots, cat carriers of old, and BOOKS!

I've included a few photos here, and I have dozens more.

I wanted to grab this off the wall and TAKE IT HOME!

A whole room of maneki nekos!

Wearing a cat scarf and earrings, of course!

Designed by the distinguished architect Frank Lloyd Wright, this is an outdoor cat shelter!
Only one in the world!
Looks like a spaceship, and made from wood.

Cat dolls...they are beautiful!

Portion of a cut paper collage.

Seriously, isn't this adorable?
Library in the background.

Love this!

This photo doesn't do the deep red color any justice!

This cutie is at the front desk.

Cast iron kitty!

Guess they are getting their pie!

Wooden cat stool

Wee stone kitty
There was no charge to enter the museum, but we put in a few dollars as donation.  I heartily recommend a visit to the CFA's Feline Historical Museum, in Alliance, Ohio.  No museum cat to pet, darn it.

Oh, and while there, we also visited The Troll Hole Museum, which has a collection of toys and garden gnomes (and a coffee shop!)...

I still have a collection of trolls at home!
...and Glamorgan Castle!  Built for Col. William Henry Morgan in 1904, as a family residence, it's been used by different folks for differing reasons over the years, and now is owned by Alliance City Schools.  Seriously, a castle?!?

The Glamorgan Castle is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is currently gearing up for a huge renovation.  The Morgan family grew wealthy due to the industrial production of the world’s first electric overhead traveling cranes, needed in factories to move immensely heavy items.  Today, that technology is used for covered arenas and stadiums, to open and close the roofs.
