Trip Recap: The Food

I am vegan, which means I don't eat any meat, fish, or dairy.  Often, while traveling, I cannot be  strict, otherwise I may not be able to eat at all! The Hubby supplied me with almonds, sunflower seeds, and a few sandwiches, but we were in the UK for over a week.  To my delight, almost every restaurant or pub that we went to had vegan food.  I ate hummus and pita chips, falafel sandwiches with beets, and a delightful jackfruit gyro before attending "Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre.

Getting sustenance at Detroit Metro Airport
Me in front with Maxine behind,
Dana and Marian in back

At The Albert!
"The Albert is a Grade II listed pub located at 52 Victoria Street in Victoria, London, about 0.4 miles (0.64 km) southwest of Westminster Abbey. Built in 1862 by the Artillery Brewery, the pub retains its striking façade and Victorian features that were undamaged during The Blitz in World War II. The Albert was named in tribute to Queen Victoria's husband, Albert, Prince Consort." as found online.
I'll admit to eating fish and chips at The Albert; I mean, we were in England!  DUH!

Tasty Vegan tartine repast in Covent Garden

Porridge and tea in Bath
The porridge was made with milk, and I didn't think to ask our server to put it on the side before placing my order, but it was very yummy, and surprisingly filling!  I couldn't even finish that huge bowl.

At Comins Tea, having a pot of Sencha Green tea
And I drank tea at every opportunity.  Breakfast Tea, Earl Grey, and any manner of green teas too.  YUMMMMMM.....

Darling family portrait…
But what's that of the upper right?…

… It's a kitten!
Well, looks a bit reptilian...

Madonna, Jesus, and John the Baptist,
in the little friend in the lower left corner…

… It's a cat!
Hmm, hard to tell from this photo, but I swear it's a cat...
the boy is holding a bird as a tease!

At the National Maritime Museum,
I searched their database for ship's cats;
This was just one example

At the Roman Baths in Bath,
Our docent displayed this photo taken in Victorian times…
Notice the cat!
Pretty girl, with a pretty kitty!

Comins Tea in Bath,
used a simple drawing of their cat Anders for their logo.
see image below

Sadly, Anders has gone over The Rainbow Bridge

Other than my family, I talked 'cats' with only two people.  A guard at the Maritime Museum, where I discussed the possibility of setting up a display honoring ship's cats; he mentioned that he has a few cats of his own, and thinks it would be a delightful display. And at Comins Tea, the proprietor told me about his and his wife's beloved cat.  Angel Anders would drink from their teacups!

Trip Recap: The Travel

Trip Recap Posts:

The flight from Detroit Metro Airport, Michigan USA to Heathrow UK is just under seven hours, plus one must arrive three hours before for international flights.  The time change is five hours, so on the way there we gained time; losing it again coming back.  Jet lag is no fun, my friends, but we all did okay with naps.

This was a couple across the aisle from us,
on the way there
We took the bus, rode The Underground, and were ferried on boats.  But most of all, we walked...

Doubledecker bus ride!
I'm in the hat, sis Max in front,
sis Marian in back, with her daughter Dana!

St. Paul's Cathedral in background,
notice all of the people walking...
 And we walked some more...
Walking bridge over The Thames

The Cutty Sark in Greenwich,
remembering the days before trains, planes & automobiles

View of London from the observatory at Greenwich;
the climb up was crazy hard!
And climbed up hills, and walked up and down stairs...

On the Prime Meridian!

Tower Bridge

Paddington Station
 Sat on more trains...
The River Avon, flowing through Bath

Bath Abbey
And walked some more!

Our hotel in London was just a block from a bus stop, and a few blocks from The Underground.  However, there was always a need to hoof it to get to any place we wanted to see.  Seriously, we did between seven and nine miles A DAY in London!  Less walking in Bath, but we climbed steep slopes, and never used cabs or buses while there.
