The Governor signs Maryland’s Anti-Declaw Bills, SB67 and HB22 into law today!
New York State banned declawing in 2019.
The first hearing for California Anti-Declaw Bill AB 2606 will be Tuesday, April 26.
It's happening, folks!
At least 42 countries have made declawing illegal, including England, France, Wales, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, and Israel. In Canada, declawing is outlawed in eight provinces—Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Alberta, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
In the U.S., the cities of Austin TX, Denver CO, the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County MO, Pittsburgh PA, and Madison WI. It is also outlawed eight California cities: West Hollywood, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica, and Burbank.
Look up upcoming legislation to end declawing here.

Oh wow!! About time!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that might increase the number of cats that are let go to shelters. I sure hope not.
It is so good to heat more places are banning declawing! If people are worried about we cats doing damage, they need to learn ho trim our nails just like they do their own!! Much cheaper than a declaw operation and everyone is happy :)
ReplyDeletePurrs, Julie
We thought it was banned in the US. It certainly should be!
ReplyDeleteAt some point it will be banned altogether. Way to go.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches to the kitties. ♥
Now if we could only get every state to ban it!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Maryland! Those are some impressive claws there Sweetie. I love the 'Claw-abiding citizen' - MOL!
ReplyDeleteIf only the US would do this for all states. No declawing ever ever. I don't believe dogs should have tails cut off and ears bobbed either. Human cruelty to animals is outrageous.
ReplyDeleteYES it is!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteGreat news. It should be banned everywhere!
ReplyDeleteThis is WONDERFUL news. YAY!!!
ReplyDeleteYup, it has banned here in Nova Scotia for quite some time now. I don't remember exactly, but... But I THINK the provincial veterinary medical association might have banned it first (you'd lose your license to practice in the province if you were caught doing it), and then the government followed suit. Like I said, it was quite a while ago so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly or not. purrs
That really is fantastic, we hope other States get their rears in gear soon. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteYeah!! What great news! Hopefully all the provinces in Canada will soon have the same law! Paws Need Claws!
ReplyDeleteThat is good news. It would be nice if it were outlawed everywhere. XO
ReplyDeleteThat is great! We hope it continues until all declawing is banned.
ReplyDeleteWe loved that little murder mitten (and Sweetie's big ones too, of course)!
Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news. Everyone put their claws up.
ReplyDeleteWoot woot!!!! Fingers crossed for California!
ReplyDeleteIt's a horrendous practice, for sure. Best wishes!
