Book It

September 6 is National Read A Book Day!

Go ahead, read a book today!

You can say you have to, since it's a holiday.

Highly recommend a cup of tea, and a cat in the lap while reading.

Before you do, however, here's an artified image of Chili Bruce for Caturday.

To Buy, To Read, To Listen

September 6 was National Read a Book Day 📚

📚 September 7 is National Buy a Book Day

Don't you think that should be reversed?

Buy a book, and THEN read it..!?!

Unless you are like me (and in honor of September is National Library Card Sign-up Month), and borrow most of your reading material from the library, buying is a rather big deal.

I have stacks of books next to my bed...gathering dust...while I gleefully listen to audiobooks and ebooks downloaded to my phone, and at least once a month I check out a book at the library, then sit down and read it in one go without leaving the building.

Which is why I hesitate to purchase another book; seems wasteful to buy them, then let them sit.

My sister tells me that I need to support authors and bookstores and BUY MORE BOOKS!

I've just purchased an audiobook; does that count, sis?

Audiobook I am currently listening to:

-Secrets of the Lost Ledgers by C. J. Archer: Book #5 in the Glass Library Series

Next audiobooks queued:

-What Time the Sexton's Spade Doth Rust by Alan Bradley: Book #11 in the Flavia de Luce Series
-A Swarm of Butterflies by Sarah Yarwood-Lovett: Book #6 in the Dr. Nell Ward Mysteries
-Vows & Ruins by Helen Scheuerer: Book #2 in the Legends of Thezmarr Series
-Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter: Book #1 in the Fae Kings of Eden Series

Actual books that I have that I REALLY REALLY want to read, when I get time:

-Inductions Dangerous by John Bellen (I Have Three Cats Blog)
-Hidden in Blood, Place of Temptation, and Lake of Tears by Bilinda P. Sheehan, Books #5, 6, 7 in Hariet Quinn Series
...and many more!

For a bookish Caturday, here is Celestial Sweetie, with my stack of to-be-read books in the background.

Read a Book Day

"6 September is National Read-a-Book Day, a holiday where book lovers, readers, writers, and illustrators can come together to celebrate prose.

This holiday is wonderful because everyone can celebrate: children who are too young to read can curl up with parents during story time; teens can share their favorite YA tales. and adults can turn to their favorite chapters in romance novels or spooky Stephen King horrors."

Some of my favorite authors have books coming out in the next six months:
  • Laurie R. King: Mary Russell series, Book 18 "The Lantern's Dance"
  • Susan Hill: Simon Simon Serrailler series, Book 12 "The Sound of Footsteps"
  • Nick Louth: DCI Craig Gillard series, Book 12 "The Body in Nightingale Park"
  • Joy Ellis: Jackman & Evans series, Book 10 "The River's Edge"
  • Elly Griffiths: Brighton Mysteries, Book 7 "The Great Deceiver"
  • Richard Osman: Thursday Murder club series, Book 4 "The Last Devil to Die"
  • Marion Todd: Clare Mackay series, Book 6 "A Blind Eye"
  • Anthony Horowitz: Hawthorne & Horowitz series, Book 4 "Close to Death"
  • Benjamin Stevenson: Ernest Cunningham series, Book 2 "Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect"
  • Jim Butcher: Dresden Files, Book 18 "Twelve Months"
  • C. S. Harris: Sebastian St Cyr series, Book 19 "What Cannot Be Said"
  • Ashley Weaver: Electra McDonnell, Book 4 "Locked in Pursuit"
  • Deanna Raybourn: Veronica Speedwell, Book 9 "A Grave Robbery"
  • Robert Galbraith: Cormoran Strike, Book 7 "A Running Grave"
  • Rebecca Yarros: The Empyrean, Book 2 "Iron Flame"
  • Kelley Armstrong: Haven's Rock, Book 2 "The Boy Who Cried Bear"
My cup runneth over with good writing, great authors, and terrific whodunits!

And do you know how much $$$ is spent on books?

ZERO!  ZIP!  NIL!

I get 'em from the LIBRARY.

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month

Get out, stay in, listen, turn a page, or swipe a screen; just read.
