The Shambala Preserve

The Hubby and I rewatched the 1954 Hitchcock film "Rear Window" recently.  It's a classic film!  Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly starred, and were fantastic!

The next movie playing on TV was "The Birds", made in 1963.  We were reluctant to sit through a few more hours of Hitchcockian 'monster' movie, but it got me thinking about Tippi Hedren, the female lead in "The Birds".

Did you know that she founded The Shambala Preserve, located in Acton, California, that saves wild cats?  From their website:

"The Roar Foundation, which I founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1983, exists solely to support The Shambala Preserve. Our mission is to educate the public about the dangers of private ownership of exotic animals. Huge numbers of exotic dangerous animals are bred and sold in the United States for illegal purposes. Private ownership presents a grave danger to the public and is cruel and unfair to these animals. More stringent legislation is needed to prohibit breeding and selling. We are actively involved in legislating this on federal and state levels."

Check out The Shambala Preserve at http://www.shambala.org/.  There are lions, tigers, servals, leopards...all kinds of wild cats!  Tippi Hedren, arguably more known for her beauty and Hollywood roles, is playing a far more important part in saving animals from neglect and abuse.

Beautiful Tippi today!
 Way to go, Tippi!
