No More!

Cats have four paws, and 18 nails, hence April 18 is International No-Declaw Day.

There is no reason that this surgery should still be legitimate ANYWHERE in the WORLD.

I've fired all of my previous veterinarians, to choose one that will not perform a declaw.

While legislators work city by city, state by state to make it illegal here in the States, things aren't moving fast enough for some of us, which is why we talk to other cat lovers, chat up folks at the library or grocery store, and educate on why it is against common decency to maim one's cats in favor of furniture.

Grassroots knowledge can be key to saving another cat.

Am thankful for anyone who is fighting this fight.

March 29: Declaw Awareness Day

DECLAW AWARENESS DAY

More info at: http://bit.ly/1XZmjSo

Celebrate by signing the petition to pass a no-declaw bill in New York. Just go to:http://bit.ly/1PNEs3I

borrowed from The Paw Project Facebook site
(Just posting this image, simply breaks my heart.)  Please, spread the word that declaw is a savage and cruel...and permanent...surgery that can ruin a cats life.  Veterinarians who continue to perform this injustice ARE NOT doing it for the animal; research shows over and over that many declawed cats end up homeless due to behavioral issues such as litter box problems, biting, and temperamental upset.

Please do what you can to support the no-declaw bill in New York State. Many countries around the world have OUTLAWED declaw, and it's time we speak up for cats to be treated with humane dignity.

If we tell our veterinarians that we won't stand for it anymore, they will change!

Come on, my fellow cat lovers!  Let's do what is right and humane.

Declaw Illegal in New York State Soon?

Friends,

Go to your favorite search engine, type in 'New York State' and 'de-claw' and you'll find a wealth of articles about Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal's bill to make the practice of de-clawing (technical term: Onychectomy) illegal in the entire state.

A partial list of countries that have outlawed or condemned this unfortunate practice:

Australia
Brazil
Israel
Finland
Estonia
Netherlands
Germany
Switzerland
Austria
United Kingdom

In the United States, the following cities have made it illegal:

West Hollywood, CA
Los Angeles, CA
San Francisco, CA
Burbank, CA
Santa Monica, CA
Berkeley, CA
Beverly Hills, CA
Culver City, CA

States that prohibit landlords from demanding resident cats be de-clawed as a condition of residency:

California
Rhode Island

If you'd like more information, go to The Paw Project.  There is so much stuff you can find online or in books at the library about living peaceably with cat's nails, such as scratching posts, those little nylon thingies, and routine nail clipping that can make a huge difference!
YOU can make a difference too!  Talk to your friends, family members, folks at church, folks in line with you at the bank, and inform them!  We can do it!  People will tell you that more cats will end up WITHOUT a home, but the amount of de-clawed cats that end up in shelters because of behavior problems contradicts that very argument.
