I won a copy of "Staying Strong for Smokey" from Cat Chat With Caren and Cody awhile ago, but I honestly didn't want to open it up! Just thinking about a child losing a beloved cat is heartbreaking.
However, "Staying Strong" is well-written and illustrated, and straightforward; your cat is very ill, and needs to be released from further pain. Adults can rationalize all they want, but children think differently, and will use this book to help them to understand that their pet is dying.

Thank you for posting this. A co-worker very recently had to euthanize a cat due to cancer, and they have two children, one of whom is only 4. I'll suggest this to her.
Ooh what a wonderful book! I have to buy some nice english-language books for my daughter. She's slowly learning english. She still can't talk even in native language, she's too little. But we're going to sign her up to english kindergarten. We'll also read her some books in english. At the moment she also listen when we're talking and she likes to watch movies in english :) Some little steps to get her used to be bilingual
This makes me sad just reading your post and see those couple of pages. But it sounds like an important book for kids to read.
That's why the book sat on the shelf for a little while! Sad, but a needed book for children, I think.

I remember when our gerbil died, but I was a teenager then. As a little girl, it would have been really difficult.

They have been going to another Vet at the practice for the past 10 years (and Bobo went there too for the last few years of his life), but we are thrilled to know we have Dr.Corey should our main Vet at the practice not be available due to vacation, etc. So glad you like the book! catchatwithcarenandcody
Ooooh, those kinds of books are hard to read, but I do think they can help children. I read a lot of children's books, and I cry when I read one about a pet dying.
It sounds like a helpful book, but sad.
What a thoughtful book. It's never easy on our humans no matter their age, but this might ease the sadness of a little one when we have to go.
