Sammy ? - 6/12/14

I helped Sammy over The Rainbow Bridge three years ago today.  It was obvious that he was not doing well, so I scheduled a dental appointment.  After many trapping tries, I successfully delivered Sammy to the morning appointment.

One of my favorite images of Angel Sammy

Sammy stayed in the beer cooler-turned-shelter

Tongue-out Sammy!
After the vet examined Sammy, she said that his mouth was in horrible shape, and advised that there would most likely be medicines to administer for a some time afterward. We also tested him for FIV, and he was positive.  His back legs were pee-stained, and he was thin.  Although I could pet Sammy, I could not hold him, and the idea of trying to drop pills down his throat seemed impossible.  She and I decided that euthanization would be the kindest thing, and I wrapped my arms around his body as he left this world.  I cried, and the vet cried too.  Neither of us had expected that result to the appointment.

Sammy had a unique meow, that sounded like 'Arf!'  His name was New Guy, or Guy, until I trapped him to have him neutered in 2010, and The Hubby helped me deliver the cat-laden trap to the low-cost spay and neuter clinic.  The Hubby totally forgot Guy's name when filling out the paperwork, so he used his grandfather's name of Samuel.

Three years since we saw you last, Sammy, and I know so much more about pilling and handling cats, and I believe we could have found a way to keep you healthy if that vet had had to pull all of your remaining teeth.  It wasn't the cost; it was logistics which tripped me up, and I get sad thinking about that.  You were ready to go...you told me with your eyes that you were done with this life, and with that body.  Sammy, you were a wonderful kitty, and it seemed we had a good connection with each other.  Patty O'Malley probably wouldn't be such a spoiled brat if you had stuck around longer, ha ha ha.  You know that I think about you often, and that your ashes are carefully shelved in my bedroom.  I remember the first time that you appeared in the yard, hiding on the south side of the house, with the snow piled high all around.

💕💕I love you, Angel Sammy💕💕

  7. What a precious little guy. We do all we can for these precious little angels entrusted to our care, and it's the hardest but bravest decision of all to admit when we can't do anymore.

  10. So sorry to read about poor Angel Sammy. Sometimes it's better to be a bit early than to see him in pain.

  16. My Sissy told me it was time to go. I could see it in her face. It's a very hard decision--one that we always question. Our kitties take a piece of our heart when they go.
