Epic Fail!

Monday O'Malley!

We tried to trap Paddy O'Malley on Sunday, for a veterinary visit.

We removed the feeding station awning, and set up the drop trap a week ago.

We've done this many times before.
Drop Trap, with extra leg.
At first, The PO'M was wary.

Wary PO'M.
As the days wore on, he seemed to relax.

Chillaxin'!
But, he's a smart cat, and managed to run out of the trap.

Me: 0
The PO'M: 1

Jigsaw Puzzle

I love The PO'M with my whole being, and only wish him to be as healthy as possible.

However, he's not a housecat; I cannot pick him up to put him into a carrier, nor will a blanket and purrito work.

We may need to find a vet that does home visits, or one that can tele-diagnose (if there is such a thing!)  Or try again when the temperature is a bit cooler (near 90 degrees F today!)

No worries: Paddy has returned!

  1. It's Veikko here. Erm, we are a little concerned about Äiti who has been making strange noises while clicking away at that jigsaw, and swooning over a certain tabster. Otso may be a big boy of silver/balck chunk, but he's no Padster. And Äiti wishes to know if the vet trip is just a check up or is there a problem ? Paws will be crossed. But trapping him ? Ha - good luck with that!

    1. The PO'M has had me concerned for awhile; a snotty nose, daily vomiting (not food), and there is a wound on his front leg. Plus, he just doesn't seem right, knowwhatImean? In the past, I've tried DIY and homeopathic things to fix him up, but nothing beats a good shot of antibiotic. We'll try again in the autumn. Thanks for your concern, Viscount Veikko! ;-)

  2. And here I thought old Paddy was a housecat. Instead, he's an independent spirit after my own heart! Hope you can find a vet to make a home visit to take care of my friend. - Tom x

    1. Tom, he surely acts like one most of the time; he's our only lapcat! This morning, he's watching me from afar, and it hurts to think that he may hate me right now. Being a cat mom is tough sometimes!

    2. So true. ~hugs~ But you're an excellent cat mom, for sure.

  4. I had the hardest time getting Relic into a carrier when we first took him in. Luckily now, I can pick him up, but if he sees the carrier, all bets are off. I have to pick him up and put him in a pillowcase, quickly twist the top closed and shove him in the carrier as fast as possible. It's not fun. Thankfully we only have to do it once a year (unless he goes out and makes trouble)

    1. The last time I was able to trap The PO'M to get to the vet was just over 3 years ago!

    1. Yes, I am determined, but picking the right time is paramount, and I did poorly yesterday.

  8. He is a gorgeous beast...but beast he is! And frankly, I admire that, you know? But deep down he is grateful to you for all your care for him...just not *quite* trusting enough. We hope he chills out and lets you either trap him or sit's still for a home visit. I am just like him, but smaller and more manageable. Hey! If he will eat what you give him, how about dissolving the powder from a gabapentin capsule into some tuna water and let him lap that up? That's how the Human has betrayed me. It *does* work. I get so goofy-drunk I don't care what happens!

  10. V;

I'd be rather hesitant to have a vet come TO the house; only because POM knows that he is safe, fed and well loved; AT your house. a vet visit there, might scare him to the point he doesn't visit everyday ....??? ya know....

paddy; dood, de blessings oh st francis two ewe pal that yur aye oh kay N get better soooper quik fast :) ♥♥

    1. The PO'M may run, but he lives here. My desire to keep him in purrfect health clashes with his desire to be his own cat, so the next attempt will be executed with better planning and a longer trap set-up, so he's completely comfortable! I think he could feel my anxiety.

  14. I know you know much more about cats and outdoor fur babies than I .. I wonder if POM drinks out of a certain bowl of water? We have been putting a scentless tasteless water additive to our cats dishes of water to help with their teeth and mouth bacteria. Poor POM looks like he has some big time chin acne going on.
Wondering if you can get him to the vet. And they can sedate him and check it all out. Poor POM. Iim praying for him.

    1. He has a ceramic bowl for water, which I clean daily, sometimes more in this hot weather. I'll try again to get him to the vet soon.

  15. I have all my fingers crossed...my heart revved up wishing him to be a good boy and just let it happen. I know how you feel when you said he is watching from afar and it hurts you. We all know here that it is what he needs and so we will know with you that he WILL allow himself to be taken to the vet, one way or another. PO'M, be a good boy. We all love you.
