Castle Shade

I read.

My family encouraged reading when I was young, and the habit stuck with me.

Belonging to several book club-like groups on Facebook, plus using the Goodreads website, I indulge my reading desires to the fullest.

In addition, our local library has apps for audiobooks and ebooks, so there is never a time when I don't have something to read or listen to.

Original Title Castle Shade

Years ago, I discovered a series written by Laurie R. King, who was gifted the diaries of Mary Russell, the apprentice of the legendary Sherlock Holmes after his retirement from London as consulting detective.

As a young woman, Mary accidentally meets Holmes as she walks the Sussex Downs, head in a book, and almost stumbles over him as he sits watching bees.

The books follow them through mystery after murder after diabolical international intrigue.

Am so very thankful for the newest book, "Castle Shade", was released Tuesday.

The duo is in Transylvania, as Queen Marie of Romania asked for help in an apparent threat to her daughter, Princess Ileana.

Cats wander in and out of every story, no matter if they take place in London, Japan, Portugal, Monte Carlo, Jerusalem, Cornwall, or Transylvania.

The writing is wonderful, the deep research knowledgeable, and one is quickly drawn into the lives of Holmes and Russell from 100 years ago.

Am also thankful, that I can read a book, or listen to an audiobook on my phone, with Sweetie laying on my chest, or The PO'M sitting in my lap.

While I am thankful for my employment, sometimes I just want to read, and be a human cat bed. 😹

  2. I wasn't raised to read, but I picked up the desire in my young adulthood. Reading is something I do every single day. It's a wonderful passion of mine.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. ♥

  3. According to my parents I taught myself how to read when I was 4! I have always had a few books on my bedside table- and my addiction to books captured my sweetie who now not only reads non-fiction but has become enamored of mystery books- John Grisham is one of our favorites! Now I will be reserving Laurie Kings books! Thanks for the tip!

  9. I had not heard of this series...I shall have to have a look. I too read - a lot! And When driving (as Midway is about an hour from the nearest larger town and 2 hours from the nearest city) I listen to audio books. Since I retired, I think I've read about 100 books and listened to 20 or so. And now I have a new series to devour! THANK YOU!!! And thanks for visiting us and your kind words.

  12. Well, I am sure you have read the Maisie Dobbs series by Wainspear, but if not, you are in for a fantastic book future. Mama reads like a crazy woman and has huge lists of books you would love. Could she share with you and get a list from you? She is on the 13th Maisie Dobbs. An elegant writer. And mama will take a look at this new one, Castle Shade, for sure. And yes, mama loves that last line TOO.
