The Met Cloisters, situated in Fort Tryon Park, is full of European medieval art and architecture, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods.

Governed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it contains a large collection of medieval artworks shown in the architectural settings of French monasteries and abbeys.

Its buildings are centered around four cloisters.

I'll spare you all the visit to the New York Natural History Museum, with its meteorites, dinosaur bones, the history of the indigenous peoples of the world (fascinating!), birds, and our solar system and The Big Bang.

Had such a wonderful time!

Am grateful to be home again, with Sweetie head-bunting my chin in the middle of the night, Manny always trying to jump onto the kitchen counters, and Chili Bruce licking out my oatmeal bowl every morning.

The Hubby kept Eastside Cats in purrfect running order while I was away; guess he's a keeper!

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Construction began in 1956, finishing in 1959.
Both the patron and the architect died during this time.

Postcards from NYC: MoMA

 The Museum of Modern Art has so many iconic pieces of artwork, that my jaw hung open at every gallery.

I minored in Art History in college, and I saw these pieces as static slides projected against the classroom wall.

To stand in front of them, in real life, breathing the same air as they did...well, it was exciting and humbling.

Each of these were produced at pivotal times in the lives of the artist, and for the art world.

Obviously, such a talent would have a cat or two as his muse.

Except, I can find only ONE painting of a cat that he completed!

Claude Monet positioned this statue to appear as if it was curled up on a pillow on his dining room couch, so his family reported.

So, what to make of this apparent HUGE HOLE is his artistic endeavors?

Well...I dunno.

I admire his art, and will travel a good distance to visit an art museum that has his paintings on display.

It's just too bad he didn't paint more cats...
