Today it's May

May Day is the starting point of summer fun, even if some of us are only dreaming of warmer temps.

🥶

A few sillies for your entertainment:

🌷🌞 ☔️ 🍀 🪻

May 1, 2026 is Bealtaine (or Beltane), a major Celtic fire festival marking the start of summer and the "light half" of the year, traditionally celebrated around May 1st (May Eve/May Day).

It signifies a time of fertility, protection, and new beginnings.

Get out there and dance, leave an offering for the fairies, and celebrate!

Henry Update:

The H Man followed me into the bathroom yesterday, for the first time in weeks.

Then he found his catnip fish toy, and chewed a hole in it.

😹

Still working through the switch from the PM appetite stimulant dose to AM; he doesn't eat much until hours later, so his breakfast bowl sits unlicked.

Because I open his B12 and probiotic capsules to mix into his food, I must shuffle my approach so I know he's getting the meds.

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am thankful for my siblings.

Our mother, aged 93, has needed extra attention recently, involving trips to Emergency, tests, overnight stays...you know the drill.

We have all made ourselves useful in way that we can, and the burden of care is spread out as much as possible.

There are upcoming doctor appointments, home health care, prescription pick up, etc.

Mom has lived independently since 2004, when our father passed.

Here is a montage of May Day cuties, from the 'hood; Spring is such a positive time of year.

May Day, May Day!

April showers bring May Flowers!

Celebrate May Day by enjoying a few of the spring flowers in our yard:
Wood Poppy
(Stylophorum diphyllum)
Red-berried Elder
(Sambucus racemosa)
White Trillium
(Trillium grandiflorum)
Woodland Phlox
(Phlox divaricata)
Rue Anemone
(Thalictrum thalictroides)
Spring Beauty
(Claytonia virginica L.)
Downy Yellow Violet
(Viola pubescens)

These are plants that experts say were alive and well in Michigan before Europeans settled.

The native birds, bees, bugs, and bats all evolved with these plants, and they are acclimated to our environment.

It's May!

The Lusty Month of May

Tra la, it's May, the lusty Month of May
That lovely month when everyone goes blissfully astray
Tra la, it's here, that shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts merrily appear

It's May, It's May, that gorgeous holiday
When every maiden prays that her lad will be a cad
It's mad, it's gay, alive, a lust display
Those dreary vows that everyone takes, everyone breaks
Everyone makes divine mistakes
The Lusty Month of May

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does it's scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating everywhere?
Don't you know, it's that dear forbidden fruit

It's May, the lusty month of May
That darling month when everyone throws self-control away
It's time to do a wretched thing or two
And try to make each precious day one you'll always rue

It's May, it's May, the month of "Yes, you may"
The time for every frivolous whim, proper or im-
It's wild, it's gay, depraved in every way
The birds and bees with all of their vast amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast
The Lusty Month of May

Tra la, it's May, the lusty Month of May
That lovely month when everyone goes blissfully astray
Tra la, it's here, that shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts merrily appear

It's May, it's May, the month of great dismay
when all the world is brimming with fun, wholesome or un-
It's mad, it's gay, alive a lust display
Those dreary vows that everyone takes, everyone breaks
Everyone makes divine mistakes

🌱🌸🍀🌞🌈

I grew up watching musical films on TV.

"Camelot" has stuck with me all of these years, especially the songs and music.

On May 1st, the words to "The Lusty Month of May" are swirling 'round my head!
