March 17, 2020: Sweetie Retired

March 17, 2020, we trapped Sweetie and brought her inside.

Taken one year before her retirement, on March 17, 2019.
Just two days after coming inside, Sweetie seemed happy to play!

March 17 is Celestial Sweetie's Inside Gotchversary, or Retirement.

We miss her dearly.

Knowing that her last years were spent in warmth, comfort, and snuggles means the world to us, and we are offering the same to Henry, hoping that he follows in Sweetie's pawprints.
Happy St. Patrick's Day and Happy St. Gertrude's Day!

A Year Before

Let's have a Sweetnesday!

Found these gems taken with PO'M's photos posted on Monday.
The Cat Hotel wasn't pretty, but it kept The 'O' Cats warm and sheltered.

The day we brought Sweetie inside was like no other...well, unless you count when Paddy O was finally safe indoors.

February 2019, and we had no idea what was going to happen just about a year later:

-First Covid Pandemic
-Significant birthday for someone at Eastside Cats
-Lost my job, but offered another (thankfully!)
-Began working remotely, and still am.
-Sweetie inside, and happy!

Celestial Sweetie, what a wee ball of sass, love, and murder mitts.

Today in 2020

Five years ago today, our Angel earned her travel documents to Heaven, and crossed The Rainbow Bridge.
Celestial Angel was one of our two 'starter' cats; we adopted her and Chuck at just 6 weeks old, which was much too young, and they were both covered in fleas and had worms, and hadn't been neutered.

After Chuck died, and we adopted Manny and Chili Bruce out of the blue, The Hubby and I felt that Angel could use time away from those two hooligans.

Voila, Angel's Apartment!

Celestial Angel then flew away, and Sweetie took ownership.

Currently, Henry is learning that inside is a good place to be.

We miss you, Darling Angel
❤️

Sneak

It's Twozday!

Some cat...*cough cough CB cough* snuck upstairs, into Sweetie's Apartment!
He looked out the front windows...
...and the back!
Not to be outdone, Good Boy Manny looked out the north-facing window...
...to watch Henry.
We've kept Da Boyz out of the upstairs apartment, as it's not yet Boyz-proofed.

Celestial Sweetie didn't jump up on anything, and stacks of work papers, framed phots, and trinkets meant nothing to her.

Our rambunctious twosome will sooner or later pull down everything not nailed in place or cemented, and we humans just haven't gotten to that point yet.

Somehow, Chili Bruce slinked through the open door when a human wasn't paying enough attention.

Season Change

It's Sweetnesday!

On Monday, Sweetie was happy to nap in her usual locale:
When she woke up, an idea came to her!
Sweetie: "The season has changed; I need some change too!"
Now she sleeps in the igloo-style bed that Celestial Paddy O'Malley enjoyed for a short time, and where Celestial Angel dreamed her dreams before that.

It was as if the open windows (for one day) allowed the winds of change to blow in!

In Sweetie's Apartment

It's Sweetnesday!

The Sweetie Apartment is mellow and purry...
Turn up the volume to hear Sweetie's quiet purrs.
She left me another smiley face.
Her eyes are beautiful!

There Seems To Be A Pattern...

It's Sweet-nesday!

Hmm...there seems to be a pattern...

There's a whole lot o' napping going on in Sweetie's Apartment!

Let's just say that the "Inside Sweetie Experiment" seems to be progressing well, after about 19 months.

Just The Facts

Just got home from jury duty!

PO'Monday on Friday!

Zonked out!
Enjoying a beat-up scratcher.
Rolling on the throw rug!

Paddy O'Malley's dental appointment is Thursday, August 19.

The blood test show that he is healthy, and able to be put under anesthesia.

His T-4 (thyroid) number is elevated; something to monitor.

His weight is a smidge under 11 lbs, and they guesstimate that he's about 10 years old.

He's FIV negative, and has been given the okay to mingle with the other Eastside Cats.

Paddy received a shot of antibiotic, to help heal his licked-off fur bald spots, and it appears to be working.

If his constant licking continues, we'll consider steroids or something to ease his allergic reaction.

Most likely, he's allergic to flea bites, and I learned that the flea/tick stuff I've been dosing him with for years only kills when the flea bites.

There are other meds that kill fleas if they just land on the cat; we'll consider using this if being inside and away from fleas doesn't cure him.

At this point, I sit with him in his room multiple times a day, and allow him to explore Sweetie's Apartment when she is asleep in the bedroom.

Going very, very S-L-O-W-L-Y with any introductions.

I LURV The PO'M!!!

Wait...WHAT?!?

The World's Premier PO'Monday post, from inside Eastside Cats!

"What's all the fuss about?"
Dearest friends,

It happened in a blink.

The PO'M was at the back door, and it was raining.

I opened the door, knelt, and gave him head scritches.  He inched closer, then closer.

When Paddy got his front feet inside, I threw caution to the wind, and pulled him inside.

Picking him up in my arms, I walked through the house, up the stairs, and into the closed off former kitchen area of Sweetie's apartment.

Yes, Paddy O'Malley is INSIDE!

Unplanned, unexpected, and mind-boggling.

He's eating, drinking and using the litter box.

He'll stay sequestered until he sees the veterinarian.

I am chuffed!

Sweetie's First Gotchaversary!

🍀

Happy St. Patrick's Day and Happy St. Gertrude's Day!

Happy Gotchaversary, Sweetie!

It was exactly a year ago, on 3/17/20, that I trapped Sweetie, and brought her inside the house.

She arrived in late 2008, and we TNR'd her in 2008.

For a decade, we fed her, housed her, and loved her, often from afar.

She took to being an inside cat with ease, surprising us all!

We adore her, and couldn't be happier to have her sleeping on us every night!

Enjoying her Sweetie Spa
She spends a lot of time there

Sweetie helps keep my nose to the grindstone, and reminds me to take a break!

She is my Coach, and my Honey Bunny!
