Waylaid!

This adorable floof cut me off today, as I strolled to the library.  She threw herself in front of my path, and I was obligated to offer petting assistance.  Lucky me!  Yummy belly...

Neighborhood Cats

OOPS!  This is Anchor, and he's obviously
A DOG!  But, he and I greet each other
almost everyday...he barks, and I giggle.
I run back and forth, as he barks and runs along the fence with me.
I figure that he doesn't get any exercise; he never leaves that yard.

This is Shy Floofytail; her sister is Friendly Floofytail.
Long story short; they both spend a lot of time outside.
Since they look so much alike, I don't know which one
I am talking to, until either Friendly comes up to me with
a cute little meow, or Shy who stays at least five feet away.

This cat acted surprised that I stopped to say 'hello'!

This sweetie stayed far away from me in the garden,
but looked at me curiously as I snapped a photo and
made kissy noises.

My man Sly!
Sly runs up to me, and I dearly love petting that
long coat of his!  Isn't he gorgeous?

Sneakers, is Sly's brother.
Sneakers is shy, but I've earned his trust enough to have him
walk toward me and allow a head scritch sometimes.
This time, he posed for me on his perch, but would not come down.

Twixie
Lives a few doors down from Eastside Cats
This photo doesn't do justice to her beautiful coloring
nor to the fact that she is friendly as all get out!

Another nameless kitty, watching from an open window.

A Visit From A Floofy Tail

The neighbor's floofy-tailed kitty decided she wanted a few pets from me!  I am diligently trying to convince her and her sister that they can visit my house at anytime for lovin' and food.  It's not clear how well they are taken care of by the folks that own them, but I'm ready to take up the slack...whether The Hubby or The 'O' Cats are up for it or not!  Look at this sweet baby; why wouldn't a person want to snuggle with her?

Here is the story on the two floofy-tailed beauties.  I was told: the woman's son moved in with her, bringing these two black kittens.  She knew they needed to be spayed, so she contacted the local low-cost spay/neuter rescue, and they were dropped off one day to be transported to get their surgeries. However, both cats were treated as FERALS; spayed and ear-tipped, and then released one afternoon into her yard!  No one told her that was going to happen, so those two babies stayed outside for almost an entire day (during bad weather, too!)  After that, neither kitty wanted to remain indoors, so the people of the house let them out.  I spy them all of the time, but they tend to hang around their 'house' in the evening.  The people of the house used to let them in a window, but another neighbor says that often the cats just sit there and meow and no one in the house pays any attention. From what I see, both cats are fed, and they appear to be in good shape.  Actually, I never know which kitty I'm looking at, since they are so similar.  One day, they may decide to emulate Aries, and join my backyard cat club!

Book Review: The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide

The Guest Cat
January 28, 2014 by Takashi Hiraide Eric Selland (Translator)
Paperback, 140 pages
Published January 28th 2014 by New Directions (first published 2001)
original title猫の客 Neko no kyaku
ISBN 0811221504 (ISBN13: 9780811221504)

edition language: English

I discovered the book while trolling through the public library's website, when I had simply typed 'cat' into the search bar.

I quickly learned while reading, that different cultures love cats, and write about them with love and compassion. People are people; cats are cats.  "The Guest Cat" is an emotional set of chapters, revealing the story of a cat-less, child-less couple who find that the visits of the neighbor's cat bring a huge volume of tenderness and joy into their hard-working, money-scraping lives.  Chibi, the black and white cat, learns quickly how to enter their dwelling for a nap or a bite to eat, then becomes a daily visitor.  She often sleeps on the bed with the writer and his wife, who keep odd hours due to the journalistic timetables.  The chapters unfold as time moves through the seasons; Chibi playing with insects in the garden, Chibi sleeping in the box the wife makes up for her in the corner of the room.

The story is delightful, yet touched with pain and sadness; the death of friends and of the landlord. Towards the book's end, the writer and his wife must leave their home, as the estate is sold off, but they stay determined to find lodging nearby, just to remain close to Chibi.

A quick, easy read, and my emotions were stirred.  I too have visitor cats, who have become a part of our lives as they patrol our yard and interact with Sweetie and Patty, and even Angel and Chuck through the windows or on the front porch. Aries, the two floofy-tailed cats, and the big orange kitty, have all visited my yard, as well as Hobo (who I TNR'd) and the Siamese kitty belonging to a renter two doors down who moved away suddenly.  The Hubby can attest to how I fall in love with these visitors, and pine for them.

Pretty in Bows

This is Izzy, a co-worker's cat.  She likes posing for the camera, I'm thinking. What a pretty, floofy kitty, with lovely towhawks and green eyes!
