Worth It

Made it home to Eastside Cats noonish on Tuesday.

My flight from La Guardia in New York to Detroit Metro Airport in Michigan was originally leaving about 9 pm on Monday night, but the storms that blasted the Eastern Seaboard had shutdown air travel for many airports.

First my flight was delayed, then delayed again...and more.

Won't walk you through it all, suffice it to type that I was confident we would fly out at about 1:00 AM, until we were told there was no airline staff.

As I was already at the airport, and they said 7:00 AM flight, I decided to stay.

Listen, thousands of people besides our merry band of Detroiters were stranded, and lots of people were sprawled out in chairs or on the carpeted floor, trying to sleep to dream of getting to their destinations.

The fact that we made it out by 8:40 AM is amazing; we were one of the first flights to go out in what is a heckuva cleanup process for all of the airlines and airports that were hit by winds, hard rain, and man oh man, the lightning!

Haven't pulled an all-nighter like that since I was in my 20's, so this lady still has it!

I didn't sleep; I had audiobooks to listen to, and access to as much food and drink, bathrooms, and long empty corridors for stretching the legs as a body needed.

Once The Hubby delivered me and my luggage home, I crashed for a handful of hours, then proceeded to love on Da Boyz until they'd had enough, and right now Henry sits nearby, watching me.

Stormy

A storm front went through our area yesterday afternoon.

At the first big wind, BAM! we lost power.
A neighbor's tree pulled down the wires in the alley, and they are dangling in our backyard.
Thankfully, Henry made it for dinner, despite the firemen and utility dudes crawling all over the place.
And, on top of that, our street is undergoing resurfacing today, tomorrow, and Saturday.
If The Hubby had put The Cat Car in the barn, we'd not be able to get it out, since the live wires are RIGHT THERE.

So, I'm at the office, camping out in an empty cubicle, working and powering up everything that I thought to bring with me.

Our plight is negligible compared to others who've suffered horribly due to storms recently, and we are thankful that we have access to resources so we can get by until everything is back to normal.

Let's Hop!

May be a bit out of pocket for a bit, but will visit y'all as soon as I can.

Postcards From Denver: Day 2 Driving

Postcard From Denver: Walking Day 1

Our first trip of the day was to Golden, Colorado, for a tour of the world's largest brewery!  The drive was about 30 minutes, and it was a warm day.  We waited in line (in the shade!) for less than 20 minutes, and the tour was about 45 minutes.  Learn more here: Miller Coors. 🍻

Beer Vats
Feeling a bit peckish after sipping our samples of beer, we lunched at The Miners Saloon.  As we left the restaurant, a storm was barreling down upon us, and we hoofed it back to the car.  Just as the huge raindrops began to pelt down, we were strapped in, and ready for our next destination. ⛅

The wind whipped up, and the temps dropped!
While driving up into the mountains, the wind blew, the lightning flashed, and the rain turned into fat globs of white snow for a few minutes!  But, as we drove higher, the sun came back out, and the view became spectacular. 🌞

And where did we go, you ask?  Surprise!  We visiting Katie, Waffles, and Debbie from Glogirly!!!

Debbie took this image of us standing on the balcony

Waffles giving me kisses; Glogirly is amused!

Our socks were charmed off...I swear it!...by Debbie's hospitality and smiles, by the views from EVERY ROOM IN THE HOUSE, and Waffles...dear, sweet, ginger boy!  Katie remained demurely in her napping space; no overt showing off for her!  But "Show Off" is Waffles' middle name. 😺

After a delightful visit, and I refrained from hiding Waffles in my tote, we drove to Eldorado Canyon State Park.  This park is simply stunning; the raw beauty of the mountains takes one's breath away (and I'm not talking about the thinner air!) 😸

Breathtaking!

A pair of deer chose to entertain us for a few minutes
Driving back to Denver and our hotel, we were too tired to go anywhere for dinner, so we ordered in, climbed into comfy clothes, and whiled away our time watching DVDs until late at night.  We each flew out of Denver Airport, going in different directions, but the memories of our fabulous days in the Denver-area kept a smile on our faces!  I plan on returning to The Mile High City, and I recommend that everyone put it on their to-do list! 👍

Thanks again to Debbie, for your hospitality, and to Waffles and Katie for your adorableness! 💖

Waffles: "I will perform AFTER treats are given!"

Glogirly: "Here you go, Waffles."
Waffles: "Num num num..."

Waffles: "More!"

Glogirly: "Let's do your meerkat impression, Waffles!"
Waffles: "Anything for treats!"

Waffles: "So yummy!"
The rest of us: "You are too cute, Waffles!"
Waffles: *blink*

My 'Hood Boycatfriends

Sneakers, putting it out there!
Storm up close
He's got a cool racing stripe
on his back
Sly is gorgeous!
 SHHH!!!

Remember how I asked you yesterday to keep quiet about my purchase of a new book?  Well, today...don't tell Patty O'Malley about Sneakers, Storm or Sly!  He doesn't know about my other boycatfriends, who purr for me, roll over for belly rubs, and give me head bunts!  Sly even follows me down the street.  Patty thinks he's the only outside cat that I love. These guys all have owners, but they wait for me daily, and then seriously love on me when I stop by!  And who am I to turn down a bit of boykitty snuggle?  😽😻😸

Thank You

From Goose's family:

"Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Goose is missed terribly, but we are glad at least he is no longer in pain.
We just can't believe he had so little time."

From Eastside Cats:

The Cat Blogosphere was amazing with words of sympathy and
empathy for this heart-broken family.
Thank YOU from the bottom of my heart for showing
how much you care.

Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians today

and

Healing and Hope for those who were hit by the storm

Sad Kitty

Sad Patty O'Malley
As I jumped into my car this morning, I snapped a photo of Patty O'Malley, as he gave me a forlorn look while sitting in the garden next to the driveway. Yes, it stormed last night, and I have been cutting back on meal sizes...and Patty has been itching, itching, itching so much...but he looks so sad!  Now you know why I am on fire to coax him inside, even though he doesn't want to come in.  Patty, I love you so...please come inside and live with me!

Riding the storm out

At least it's February...we are one day closer to Springtime!
