Fascination

I've been taking my 'hood exercise in the early morning, to beat the heat.

Yesterday, I saw all of these interesting things:

Am always fascinated by the quirky items that catch my eye.

Maybe I'm still half-asleep?

Amidst the Leaves

Mother Nature shows off in our native plants gardens:
Stonecrop
Mapleleaf Viburnum
Early Meadow Rue
White Snakeroot
Thimbleweed
Wild Geranium

We allow the autumn leaves to fall and stay in our backyard, and are thankful for it.

The leaves are havens for overwintering insects.

Some day, our entire yard...front and back...will have no lawn, only plants and trees that are the same as what was in our part of Michigan before Europeans came a'calling.

The wildlife and ecosystem evolved together, and invasive species take away nutrition and pollinators.

Wild plants are acclimatized to Michigan's seasons, and therefore are almost maintenance free.

There is one plant, however, that volunteered itself, yet must go:

It's The Beginning

It's Caturday!

The weather has cooled, and trees have begun dropping leaves.

Have snapped a few images, then created a collage.

Leaves and Snow

It's PO'Monday!

It's that time of year, when the trees are still giving up their leaves, and snow comes along.
Images from November, 2019.
Winter is my least favorite season, primarily due to my years of caring for outside cats.

The cold, the wind, the ice, and in the back of my mind was the feeling that I was a poor cat-enthusiast, leaving my 'guests' outside in such conditions.

Saturday's light snowfall had me wanting to get out to shovel the deck.

Old habits.

PO'Monday

ðŸ˜½Thanks to ET for the new title for Monday O'Malley!😽

This video was taken before The Hubby had mulched those leaves, and then a serious wind storm came through yesterday.

Sometimes, I wish I had a cat-sized hard hat/safety hat for The PO'M to wear, as branches, twigs, leaves, and whathaveyou fell from the sky on his wee noggin...and mine too, as I ventured out to check on him.  There was hail, or maybe snow; the 'shush' as the particles hit my parka was mostly drowned out by the sound of the tree limbs flinging themselves back and forth in the gusts.

Thankfully, no power outages for us, and The PO'M made it through, even though his cardboard boxes were blown into the neighbor's front yard.  They have been dutifully restored to him.

Canopy Cat Rescue

"We rescue cats stuck in trees all over Western Washington.

We are a non-profit organization because EVERY cat deserves the chance to be  rescued."

Tom Otto and Shaun Sears are arborists, who love cats.  They discovered there was a real need for someone to rescue cats stuck high in trees in their area.  These gentlemen and their team are true heroes, who work only on donations.

This is why, when I saw a fundraiser for Canopy Cat Rescue, I ordered a very cool hoodie!
Worn with pride!

Purrsonally, I think these men should run for President, but then they wouldn't be climbing trees to rescue stuck kitties?!?

Watch their videos; I'm telling you, these guys put it all on the line for felines!

I am thankful for their huge hearts, and their tree-climbing skills.

Speaking of trees, here are some images from my 'hood:

Taken on October 16
Same tree, taken October 21
These yellow leaves just glow; the photo doesn't do it justice.

Leaf Me Alone!

The backyard before...

...and after!

There are 15 total of these leaf bags,
and they are HEAVY!
Pick up is Tuesday morning

Patty O'Malley was not afraid of The Hubby's
lawn mower. My job was stuffing the leaf bags
after The Hubby emptied the mower's hopper

Oh yeah, Patty and me!

Sad Kitty

Sad Patty O'Malley
As I jumped into my car this morning, I snapped a photo of Patty O'Malley, as he gave me a forlorn look while sitting in the garden next to the driveway. Yes, it stormed last night, and I have been cutting back on meal sizes...and Patty has been itching, itching, itching so much...but he looks so sad!  Now you know why I am on fire to coax him inside, even though he doesn't want to come in.  Patty, I love you so...please come inside and live with me!

Leaf Raking Snoopervisors

Patty O'Malley, snoopervising
Sweetie was watching too
Patty took a break from all the hard work
A collection of leaves from the backyard
Wasn't surprising for The Hubby and I to see Patty O'Malley watching the leaf-raking festivities, but then Sweetie came out too!  They both inspected our leaf bag placement, but Sweetie wanted them set further apart, so she could hide in the middle of them.  Patty preferred that I spend less time with the leaves, and more time scratching his chin and petting his belly.  Patty will do ANYTHING for a belly rub!
