Rooty

In our neck of the woods...pun intended...today is Arbor Day!

Plant a tree, hug a tree, take a walk in the park on a foresty path.

Winter solstice 2022 in Northern Hemisphere is at 4:47 PM on Wednesday, December 21, Eastern Time.

Many ancient henge sites are mysteriously aligned with the sun on the winter solstice, such as Stonehenge, UK and Newgrange, Ireland.

Leaves and Snow

It's PO'Monday!

It's that time of year, when the trees are still giving up their leaves, and snow comes along.
Images from November, 2019.
Winter is my least favorite season, primarily due to my years of caring for outside cats.

The cold, the wind, the ice, and in the back of my mind was the feeling that I was a poor cat-enthusiast, leaving my 'guests' outside in such conditions.

Saturday's light snowfall had me wanting to get out to shovel the deck.

Old habits.

PO'Monday

ðŸ˜½Thanks to ET for the new title for Monday O'Malley!😽

This video was taken before The Hubby had mulched those leaves, and then a serious wind storm came through yesterday.

Sometimes, I wish I had a cat-sized hard hat/safety hat for The PO'M to wear, as branches, twigs, leaves, and whathaveyou fell from the sky on his wee noggin...and mine too, as I ventured out to check on him.  There was hail, or maybe snow; the 'shush' as the particles hit my parka was mostly drowned out by the sound of the tree limbs flinging themselves back and forth in the gusts.

Thankfully, no power outages for us, and The PO'M made it through, even though his cardboard boxes were blown into the neighbor's front yard.  They have been dutifully restored to him.

Leaf Me Alone!

The backyard before...

...and after!

There are 15 total of these leaf bags,
and they are HEAVY!
Pick up is Tuesday morning

Patty O'Malley was not afraid of The Hubby's
lawn mower. My job was stuffing the leaf bags
after The Hubby emptied the mower's hopper

Oh yeah, Patty and me!

Bummer, Dude...

Patty O'Malley does not look very happy now that Autumn has arrived!  To be honest, I have never witnessed him hiding in the hosta plants like this. Don't worry; I gave him a long, loving cuddle and snuggle fest before I left for work!

How I See Autumn

This is a graph that I update daily.  I keep track of temperatures: average, highs and lows.  Plus I match everything up to last year's temps.

Why, you say?  Because I've fallen in love with Patty O'Malley and Sweetie. And they do NOT live inside.  And even though they have insulated shelters, and good food and water MORE than twice a day, the upcoming cold starts putting worry lines on my forehead.  For them.

I've tried every day to coax them up the stairway on the back of the house, with little success.  They just don't understand what I'm asking them to do. Patty has managed to jump up to Step #4, but he only looks at the ramp and turns around again.  I may have to do some serious begging, to get The Hubby to reconstruct the ramp portion, making it more like steps:
He, rightfully so, has doubts about the wisdom of trying to get the 'O' cats inside.  Even in their own closed off room.  How will it effect Angel and Chuck?  I try to tell him, that it will matter to the 'I' cats only if we humans make a big deal out of it.  However, I think he hears my voice like WAH WAH WAH, as in the old Peanuts cartoon TV specials when adults talked. The Hubby is focused on Chuck; his health, the remaining time we have with him.  Chuck comes first; everything else is secondary.  And I feel the same, and yet I know that snow is just right around the corner.

In the meantime, I hear the wind blowing and watch the leaves fall. Because I go inside every night, while one half of my cat family stays outside.  I dream of sleeping with these cats, and hope to make it a reality. Until then, I update my temperature chart, and hide my worries under my hat.

That darn hour!

My backyard

Can't see the walkway!

Chucky's found a new box to nap in
Ever since we've been owned by cats, this weekend is a trial for me.  How do you tell them that their meals are now an hour later?!?  I start to fret a week early, planning out how to move their meals back a few minutes every day...until Sunday when the clocks change.  HA!  Whoever planned Daylight Savings Time and continues to carry it out, obviously does NOT have pets!  At least the 'o' cats cannot give me any hassle, but I see them sitting out there...waiting...for me to show with their food, and I feel like a royal heel.  The hubby laughs at me, and tells me the cats will forget it all within a few minutes.  I do not agree.  Nope, the extra hour kills me every year!

Yesterday, I used a Friday vacation day, and stayed up really, REALLY late on Thursday night watching hours of dreck on TV.  Then...I slept in!  Amazing, right?  I rarely EVER sleep in, because Angel is our alarm clock.  But somehow, she either didn't try hard enough, or I was able to ignore.  Voila!  Every one's breakfast was late on Friday, and then the same thing happened Saturday morning.  I took advantage, and moved all meals back one hour, including lunch snacks and dinners.  Therefore, this Sunday will be the first time in a decade that 'FALL BACK' doesn't give me ulcers. Wonder what's on TV tonight?
