Darling family portrait…
But what's that of the upper right?…

… It's a kitten!
Well, looks a bit reptilian...

Madonna, Jesus, and John the Baptist,
in the little friend in the lower left corner…

… It's a cat!
Hmm, hard to tell from this photo, but I swear it's a cat...
the boy is holding a bird as a tease!

At the National Maritime Museum,
I searched their database for ship's cats;
This was just one example

At the Roman Baths in Bath,
Our docent displayed this photo taken in Victorian times…
Notice the cat!
Pretty girl, with a pretty kitty!

Comins Tea in Bath,
used a simple drawing of their cat Anders for their logo.
see image below

Sadly, Anders has gone over The Rainbow Bridge

Other than my family, I talked 'cats' with only two people.  A guard at the Maritime Museum, where I discussed the possibility of setting up a display honoring ship's cats; he mentioned that he has a few cats of his own, and thinks it would be a delightful display. And at Comins Tea, the proprietor told me about his and his wife's beloved cat.  Angel Anders would drink from their teacups!

  3. That is some great art...but that's because there are cats in each one. :)

  4. I'll bet almost every ship in the Royal Navy had a cat - and probably all loved, too.

  11. It's really neat to see cats put into old paintings. Clearly they meant something to their families to be commemorated like that.
