244nd Independence Day!

Happy July 4th, America!

The Hubby and I usually visit a local fireworks display, although every year I wish the municipalities would consider silent fireworks.

Fireworks also are very polluting; the chemicals used, the smoke that fills the air, and I'm sure the folks who light the wicks don't escape the process unscathed.

In addition, although we've enjoyed a vegetable-based diet for many years, there is one fascinating July 4th contest held every year that we've watched on television:

The Famous Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest!

This year, the event will be held indoors.

Trust me, it's ain't pretty, and you may not be able to watch the 100% contest without wanted to heave your own cookies, but in a weird, fascinating way, the contestants make it a worthwhile competition!

I agree about the hot dog contest. I am not one
(anyone who has pets) to be bothered by stuff that comes up. But good grief those idiots
just turn me into a wuss who can't look

  10. Happy 4th! I'm so glad Sweetie gets to be safely inside this year for the noise. And also, I don't think I could watch any kind of eating contest.

  12. Silent fireworks would be amazing. I always feel sorry for the animals who live near the areas where the big fireworks displays are set off. I can't watch eating contests of any kind. I find them repulsive.
