Sliced bread, a loaf of bread that has been pre-sliced with a machine and packaged, appeared for the first time on the market on 7 July, 1928.
For hilarious reasons, the interwebs are full of memes and cartoons of cats and slices of bread; a few are offered here today for your amusement.
😹😹😹
Oh my, cats and bread sure don't seem to sit well together, do they? Now toast is another thing entirely, well, just so long as it isn't incinerated like Mrs H's!

Just finished a series of books by Susan Wittig Albert set in the early 30's. She tells of "progress" made during the late 20's and so. Bread was one of them.. Good old Wonder White. Love the musical.
ReplyDeleteThese are cute - but cats are so much better than sliced bread!
ReplyDeletePoor kitties! As a cat I don't eat bread but Mum does of course.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Hey, that first one looks like a chipper sandwich!
ReplyDeleteI can understand that sliced bread can be convenient, but for me, there's nothing like cutting your own bread. And I am certain it tastes different than pre-sliced...
ReplyDeleteFood history is fascinating. Be well!
ReplyDeleteI love in bread cats. :)
ReplyDeleteHeeheehee! Fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteDuring WWII, they quit selling presliced bread as it was one of the things they figured people could do without as all steel, including for the slicing machines, was needed to be diverted to the war effort.
Haha. Those are some great in bread cats. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou can't do that with a bagel
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggles!!
ReplyDeleteThe first one is the cutest.
