1984, A Very Good Year

The Detroit Tigers are the Major League Baseball team in Metro-Detroit, Michigan.

Tigers are cats, yes?

Then I'm going to go all fangirl on you, as I had the supreme opportunity to be in the presence of the 1984 World Series winning catcher for our team, Lance Parrish.
He and his co-author Tom Gage spoke to a crowd of adoring fans about their book "The Enchanted Season" at our local library.

In 1984, my family and friends were crazy about the Detroit Tigers, who had the best start of any team in baseball history, and battled their way to win the World Series.

Lance Parrish was a favorite of every female in town, as he was tall, handsome, and built like a god.

In person in August, 2025, he is gregarious, amusing, happy to talk to his fans, and the crowd gave the love right back and more.

He's still looking pretty good!
Another box ticked on my life's 'to-do' list!

Am so very thankful for the opportunity to relive that wonderful year, to chat with other old-time Tiger enthusiasts, put eyes on an idol of mine, and it's a pretty good book also.

"Go Get 'Em, Tigers!"

"RAWR!!!"
The Hubby and I attended yesterday's Major League Baseball game between the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins.  The Tiger's won, 5 to 3.  Tiger player Andrew Romine hit a grand slam, which pretty much sealed the win.  The day started out grey, cloudy and a bit cool, but by game time the sun came out and my layers of clothing started coming OFF!

Having been a fan of this particular team for most (if not ALL) of my life, every game is a treat.  It also brings to mind a particular song that they played to death in 1968 (yeah, I know, as dinosaurs walked the Earth!) when The Tiger's were in the playoffs, then won the AL pennant, and also the World Series.

We're all behind our baseball team
Go get 'em Tigers!
World Series bound and picking up steam
Go get 'em Tigers!
There'll be joy in Tiger Town the whole night long
when the Bengals bring the pennant home to where it belongs
We're all behind our baseball team
Go get 'em
Detroit Tigers!
Go get 'em Tigers!!

Happy Birthday to The Cat Daddy-Mama!

Happy Birthday to The Hubby!
As you can see from this baby photo, The Hubby loved cats while still in nappies!

He called that stuffed leopard, "Tygee"
The curtains have Peter Pan characters on them!
Patty O'Malley sends his own birthday greetings from the front porch.

"C'mon, feed us already!"
What can I say about The Hubby that you don't already know?  He's kind, dedicated, thoughtful, comedic, passionate, while being laid-back and creative.  When he's mad, you will know it!  Yet he sits with Angel and pets her until she coos, and Chuck now walks up to him when it's pilling time.  The Hubby hates a fuss for his birthday, however I won tickets for today's Detroit Tiger's game in Detroit, from Monday's work raffle.  So I am leaving the office to spend the afternoon with him at the ballpark.  We'll have dinner out at our favorite restaurant, Pita Cafe in Oak Park, (the wait staff KNOWS our order!), then get home in time for whatever NBA basketball game is on.

I have always been a huge Detroit Tiger's fan, having grown up in Metro Detroit area.  How cool is it that their image is a Bengal Tiger?  As a cat lover, I love this, and I love the game.  Seeing these images, feels to me that we've rounded the corner on Winter, and are sliding into Spring.  You too?

Thank You

Thanks, all for your recent kind words.  Cannot tell you how helpful they were to me.  I turned off my computer, my news feeds and Facebook for awhile.  Read a good book...two, actually, watched some favorite movies, and generally recharged.

Yesterday, the hubby and I went on a day-long date: attended an art fair in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan, went to eat at our favorite restaurant The Pita Cafe in nearby Oak Park (Majadra dinner and Starter Combo that we both share), and attended the afternoon baseball game in Detroit where the Detroit Tiger's team lost to the Cleveland Indians.  But the home team took two of three series games, so yippee!

What's really GREAT about Comerica Park, where the Detroit Tiger's play, is the tigers!

Funny thing: I found a penny while walking the art fair.  I picked it up and put it in my pocket.  While going through security before the baseball game, there were coins sitting on the table.  I scooped those up because I was sure the money belonged to the hubby...and they were just sitting there with no one else around.  Turns out, they weren't his.  In about the fourth inning of the game, I noticed some money laying under the seats of the guys in front of us.  The hubby fished the bills out, and we offered them to the two men, who refused because they checked their pockets and swore the money did not belong to them.  There was no one else around!  So, I FOUND a total of $11.28 yesterday.  How cool is that!  Proof that my recent frowns needed to be turned into smiles...the universe paid me back!

Then, today, I spent a couple hours with Paws For The Cause, playing with Sophie and Shelby, Reggie, Lulu and Marco...and five kittens; four orange, one tortoiseshell.  And right now, Chuck is howling at me to stop whatever it is I'm doing, and pay 100% of my attention on him.

And he's right!  What can possibly be more important than to adore a cat?
