Thankful Thursday: Manny was inside

Manny, taken moments after discovery
Metro Detroit, Michigan, has had enough warm temperatures and rain, to wash away much of our snow.  Therefore, I can get outside for my evening walks through the neighborhood, in an effort at exercise; the sidewalks are clear!

Last night, as I closed to outside door, both Manny and Chili Bruce tried a bit of a door dash, but I was 100% sure that they were both inside, safe and sound.  Imagine my alarm when The Hubby called my mobile after about 10 minutes, telling me that Manny was NOWHERE to be found inside, and that, in his mind, I had obviously allowed the cat OUTSIDE!

Turning around quickly, I speed-walked back home, and eyeballed the area to see if Manny was hiding near the house.  The PO'M and Sweetie weren't talking, but they were hanging around in the front yard, as if watching the spectacle.

I raced inside, climb the stairs, and start a systematic search of the house, from top to bottom.  The Hubby said, "I've already done that!", but I did it too.  No Manny.  My heart was pounding.  Outside again, I walked around the house, and had reached the backyard (fearing a Manny versus raccoon stand-off!) when The Hubby yelled from the front porch, "FOUND HIM!"

Yep, Manny was inside, just closed in the coat closet that I'd opened to grab my ugly, puffy, but very warm walking coat.  Manny was not the worse for wear, and I cancelled my walk to sit down and allow my heart-rate to subside.  The Hubby apologized, but defended his early position that it 'seemed' that Manny had escaped when I walked out.

So, I was ready when the newest episode of "The X-Files" came on...YES!

Therefore, I am thankful that Manny was inside.  I am thankful that The Hubby is as much in love with Da Boyz as I am.  I am thankful that Sweetie and Patty O'Malley are well, and I love them both deeply.  I am thankful that I have blogging friends like you all, who understand, and that we can share the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in-between together.  And I am thankful that "The X-Files" has new episodes!

  1. You must have been super relieved to find Manny in the house. I'm allowed out in the garden but MUST BE INSIDE as soon as it starts to get dark. The peeps are always thankful when they know we're all in, safe and sound. PURRS.

  4. Whew! I can think of more than one occasion where it has "seemed" a kitty has gotten outside, because they have hiding places in the house of which I am unaware. And, one time said kitty (poor Thimble) was indeed locked in a closet instead. Purrs to all!

  8. He needs to learn how to cry like a little girl when trapped in a closet, like Ivan does. ;-)

(But we are glad he was found in and not out. Mom knows that heart-killing fear of a cat out!)

  9. i once cat sat for a family member and less than 12 hours in the cat was GONE. no way it could get out but it was nowhere. no cat would tell me where he was.. then he came waltzing out and was just in the middle of the living room.. so I know the feeling. Glad you are both okay from the fright.

  12. I culdn't help but laugh as mom and dad both have shut me in the basement when I sneak down to help them. I lounge around the basement and a few hours later ask...politely to come out. No one can find me although I've done this many times. I must admit its a fun way to get treats.

  16. You must've been petrified! Mudpie has pulled 2 disappearing acts down in the basement during which time I was sure she had sneaked out the door. Little twirps!

  18. I had a similar escapade with Burton a while ago. Relic was playin door games again (in out, in out) but I finally got him in for the night. About an hour later, I realized I hadn't seen Burton in a while. He will occasionally dissapear up to the bed for a nap once in a while, so I check up there. No Burton. I searched the house, top to bottom, couldn't find him anywhere. I was terrified he'd slipped out while I'd been distracted with Relic's antics. I was pulling on my boots to go look, when Dave finally looked up from his computer game and said "You fed Relic - maybe Burton ran in the cupboard".
Sure enough, when I opened the cupboard, Burton was sitting beside the giant bag of cat food, looking very pleased to have fooled me!

  19. How scary! Glad Manny was safe and sound (and warm) inside.

Giroux no longer does the door dash, but I remember when he did. It terrified me that we would not be able to catch him.

  20. I’m soooo glad Manny was inside! There have been times we couldn’t find Goro or Niko anywhere (thankfully they always emerged later) so I know how you feel!

  21. Wow! I hate those scary Kitty Count times and I can't find one of the kids! And then I hear a faint meow and find one of them in the closet for who knows how long. Are they glad to get out of there! Glad you found Manny inside fur sure!

Our Thankful post is that we finally caught four cats in need of leaving motel parking lot. One has been elusive for years. You can read about that on our blog. -Purrz from Katie Kat.

  24. A "cardio" workout due to adrenaline is not a good substitute for a brisk walk. I'm glad everyone was safe and sound, inside.

  25. Oh my gosh, how scary! I'm so glad that he was safe and sound inside! I've had that scare once and I hope to never repeat it.
