Rescued Bald Eagle

Grey Parrot

Horned Viper

Mama and baby Snow Leopard

Red Panda

Lily Pads in Rose Garden

Jellyfish
Other critters seen:
Giraffes,
Cheetahs,
Bengal Tigers,
Elephants,
Hippopotamuses,
Orangutans,
Lemurs,
Otters,
Silverback Gorillas,
Meerkats,
Turtles.
Reindeer,
Crocodiles,
Bears.
Birds of every stripe in the Aviary,
Monkeys,
Seahorses, Sharks, Rays...
and much, much more!

From Eastside Cats to Toledo, is just over an hours drive.
We were there on a cool, misty day, which was good because the crowds were low.

I took over 300 photos...

The Snow Leopard and cub were amazing to watch in particular, as were the Elephants.
We discovered a vegetable garden, that they use to feed the residents...which seems so very smart!

Cannot say I'm a huge zoo fan, however it's quite obvious that this zoo takes care of it's charges well, and has lots of open space and enrichment, tailored to every living creature.

  2. The way things are going in the environment, zoos may, ironically, be the only safe refuge for many animals...

  5. great zoo photos!! It's probably better than the Detroit Zoo that's for sure ....Detroit needs to move their zoo and work on it BIG TIME. If you want to see a decent zoo with great scenery...drive 2 hrs to the Cleveland Zoo, it's MUCH better than Detroit's and is probably better than Toledo too. As for your comment about the shelters needing our help, you're preaching to the choir my friend. You forgot my step daughter worked at Almost Home (as a Manager) in Southfield for 5 years and was a volunteer there for many, many years before she worked there. I donate to as many shelters as I can (in state and out), I just normally don't broadcast it (but the Blog Hop "rules" were to say what you have done).......I prefer to do much of what I do anonymously. :)

  6. Zoos give me mixed feelings. I like the fact it inspires people to care about animals, and I enjoy seeing them. But it is best that they live free. ~sigh~ The Cincinnati Zoo is always improving, at least. Great photos!

  11. Those are great photos! Mom's not much of a zoo fan either, but the one we have here really is nice. They got penguins this year and built a huge ice house for them.

  13. We too, have very mixed feelings about zoo's ... and yet feel that without them, few of us would learn to know about or come to understand and love many of our worlds amazing creatures ... and so many do a truly great job of introducing us to the world of animals, and preserving and nuturing them. It's a difficult balance however ... your photos are lovely ... good job.
