A more detailed update on Sweetie:
She had four teeth extracted, included both upper and lower left-side canines.
Adult cats should have 30 teeth; Sweetie now only has five!
For the first day and a half, she acted more feral than ever before, and I was unable to administer any of the meds I was given:
Oral Buprenophine: liquid pain relief
Onsior: non-steroidal pain relief
Azithromycin: liquid antibiotic
Doxycyline Monohydrate: capsule antibiotic
The Hubby and I left her alone, and didn't push hard.
Last night, she came out from under the dresser, and allowed me to pet her.
She even ate a teeny, tiny bit.
She slept a bit with me, and I got up several times last night to simply sit with her.
This morning, she has avoided food (where I've mixed in some water and meds), and again is hiding under the dresser.
However, she's got to get at least some of these meds into her system, so we may grab her, and syringe some into her mouth.
I feel like the meanest cat mom in the world, for gaining Sweetie's trust, then having her go through all of this!
On the other hand, her bloodwork results are excellent, which is a blessing.
I adore Sweetie, and she's teaching me to be PATIENT, but so far, I've been a poor student.
I adore The Hubby, who's had to scrape me off of the ceiling more than once in the last few days.
Thank you to SD, ET, and JB for your 'you can do it's online!

I love your fails...!!
ReplyDeleteSweetie bless your heart. I have had tons of dental work done in my life so I can surely identify with your discomfort. Here's to a good med day
Hugs Cecilia
Sometimes you have to give "tough love," like medications. I always follow with a treat, like a few licks of chicken baby food. Sending purrs for her continued recovery.
ReplyDeleteBravo! And dare I say, ENCORE! OK maybe best not tempt fate, but those are rather good, MOL
ReplyDeletePurrs

The fails are wonderful. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect day and weekend. ♥
Those were fun fails! Poor Sweetie, I've been there. She really needs the antibiotics and the Buprenophine (in her cheek pocket), they'll help.
ReplyDeletePoor Sweetie, but she will feel so much better when her gums heal.
ReplyDeleteThose are great photo fails.
Poor Sweetie. Hope she heals soon.
ReplyDeleteYou are a great cat mum!
I'm glad her bloodwork was good! I hope she starts feeling better soon. I LOVE that 2nd photo!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great bloopers. We hope Sweetie comes around...she will, we know it.
ReplyDeleteSweetie is so lucky to have you. These are great bloopers. The first looks Halloween-y!
ReplyDeleteI hope Sweetie feels better soon. The tooth fairy will send her some gifts.
ReplyDeletehaha....mol...We loved these pictures...fuzzy wuzzy and, "Look ma, no goiter hanging here." were funny as heck. The one that totally blew us away was the look on PO'M's face...lie..."Oh No here she comes again. One day she will die." lol
ReplyDeleteShoko, Tyebe and Mom Jean
Poor blessed Sweetie. She will forgive you when she feels better and I truly understand how it is to suffer guilt we should not have when trying so hard to help them...
ReplyDeleteI hope Sweetie is feeling better quickly. Sending healing thoughts to her. I love the bloopers. Hahaha!
ReplyDeletePoor Sweetie. Sending her healing purrz. Every time I go to the vet the peeps feel like they have to gain my trust again. Love those fails. The first one looks like one of TW's analog pics.
ReplyDeleteMOL, we love the PO'M's picture ! Poor Sweetie, we hope she feels better soon. Purrs
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these great photo fails. The first one is our favorite. We hope Sweetie starts feeling better after she gets her medicine. Have a great weekend.

Oh you are certainly not a mean cat mom. You are doing and trying to do what is best for Sweetie. But I can totally relate. It’s impossible not to feel bad for taking our fur kids to the vet or giving meds against their will, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove those photo fails :-)
The photo "fails" are fun :)
ReplyDeletePoor Sweetie. I agree you need lots of patience to pill a cat. I think she might sense your kindness but still needs to work on the trust issues. Not even humans like medicine. Sending her healing purrs.
Glad to hear Sweetie is doing well.
ReplyDeleteOur Georgia is prone to constipation and mum has to syringe meds into her.She does not like it or the meds but it is the only way.
WE purr she heals quickly so you can get back to loving her ;)
Purrs,Georgia and Julie
We love the photo fails. Praying that Sweetie continues to do well.
ReplyDeleteI cracked up at these awesome images. The final one isn't a fail as far as I'm concerned. It really captures the spirit and silliness of the almighty PO'M. ~grin~ You're doing right by Sweetie, and I think she'll relax soon. ~hugs~ My understanding is that cats do better with zero teeth than painful ones. Be well and hang in there!
ReplyDeletePrecious photo fails! It is so hard to be a Cat Parent sometimes, vet visits and meds are the things I despise the most. At some level, Sweetie knows you care for her and are helping her. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOH Sweetie. Miss pie was great after her first 3 teeth were extracted But 10 days later she refused to eat. Had an abscess and we nearly lost her. It was so so awful. WE were overjoyed the morning she ate a bit by herself. If she had not, she was going to have a tube put in........
ReplyDeleteShhhh sweetie is not to hear of this
Sweetie is just dealing with the effects of the surgery. Even without the medicine, she will recover well. (Keep the medicine around for other cases, if you don't use it with Sweetie.) My Josie has just three teeth, and Tucker has none, and they eat - and are doing - very well. Sweetie will, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd Chuck looks quite eerie!
Thanks So much for the clover tips. I knew they were great for soil sustenance and you just reiterated that. And now I get why!
ReplyDeletePurrayers and POTP for getting Sweetie to eat and take her meds. Our Buzz has no teeth and he seems to do quite well. But getting her through the pain and meds is the important part.
