Recognized on the last day of the annual Christmas Bird Count, National Bird Day is widely celebrated to raise awareness of the treatment of birds in captivity and promote the conservation of wild birds.
I love birds; love to watch them as they flit about in the trees, but am crap at identification despite the four bird books within easy reach.
Am very aware that outside cats will try to snatch birds for a meal, yet we only witnessed one bird killed by our outside cats...and that was by Celestial Paddy O'Malley.
Sweetie was an excellent mouser, by the way.
In honor of birds, here are a few joking cartoons and meme re: birds and cats.
Have already warned Trout Talkin Tabbies about today's post, as they really don't like 'burds'.
😹😹😹
Last year was a bumper year for small birds here, but after the sparrow hawk being joined by a young one hunting the latter part of the year the small bird population is now decimated.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a robin sit on the phone wire every morning and sing to me. About 30 or 40 sparrows used our Leyland hedge as an apartment block, and you couldn't see the bird feeders for tits. Now nothing, only seagulls and pigeons!
We enjoy good bird TV here, too. Not sure if I've ever caught a bird, though. Can't remember doin' so. Saffron once caught a crow. Yup, a crow. I know! Crow must have been as big has him. But that was the winter before Peepers was able to gain his trust and bring him inside. We'd had a big snowstorm and he was kinda stuck under the deck for several days. Poor guy must have been really hungry. purrs
ReplyDeletedee burdz did a spek-tak-yoo-lur burd circus in my bak yard a few dayz ago
ReplyDeleteThe kitties love some good bird watching over here!
ReplyDeleteHappy Bird Day everyone! We do like watching the birds come and go.
ReplyDeleteHappy Bird Day! Growing up, we had birds and cats (and dogs and snakes and etc.), and the cats and birds got along well.
ReplyDeleteI'm also awful at counting and identifying birds.
lol
ReplyDeleteGood funnies. :)
ReplyDeleteI know you would never hurt a bird
ReplyDeleteI love hearing the birds in the morning, especially in the spring and summer, as they greet the new day...
ReplyDeleteMomma feeds crows behind our catio. Let me tell yoo, if she isn't out there with peanuts and bread by 8:30 they scream up a storm until she arrives.
