Paw-in-Claw

June 19, 2026 is the start of the traditional Chinese holiday, The Dragon Boat Festival.

Activities include praying for good luck, eating rice dumplings, and taking respite from the summer heat with dragon boat races.

To me, dragons and cats go paw-in-claw, and I'm not the only one; here are a few pieces of art found on social media:

This means that summer is just days away!

YAY!

🌞🏖🌅

Happy Dragon Boat Festival, all.

If you'd like to enjoy actual Dragon Boat Racing, simply search for 'dragon boat racing near me' and you'll find events all summer long.

Alarming

June 18 is International Panic Day, a mock holiday designed to draw attention to mental health issues.

It encourages individuals to acknowledge their anxieties and fears, fostering open conversations about well-being.

Take a moment to reflect, seek support, and prioritize your mental health.

And a few laughs will help!

For your entertainment, items found on social media:

I, for one, enjoy finding the silliest things on social media, and love to share.

At a recent family get-together, I used my phone to display memes and jokes, proving to the other retirees present that I'm working hard while not working!

Keep 'em coming, folks, and thank you as I steal your work for our amusement.

Hahahahaha!

The Man

It's Twozday.

Manny is our star today.

He posed near windows for these images.

I try to avoid the light flare, but it sneaks in all the same.

On the microwave, trying to break off pieces of the Christmas cactus.
In the bay window.
On top of the fridge!

Manny doesn't seem to miss his eyebrows, and those bald patches make identification easier.

However, we'd prefer that his brofur Chili Bruce would NOT chew and lick Manny's noggin.

Revolver

It's PO'Monday, and on June 10, 2017, Celestial Paddy O'Malley was playing with his shadow.

And that tummy!!!

Almost as if he were rotating or revolving to get sunshine...and shade...on all of his parts.

😹 😹 😹

Henry Update:

Our sweet H-Man is doing well.

When it's time for his meds, he runs into the bedroom to lay down on the bed.

I put my left hand around his head to open his jaws, then place the capsule or pill as far back as I can.

His next chemo tablet will be June 23.

The photo above is Henry with his ears at the open window, his body on the bed, and his backend up against me.

While 'assisting' him with his napping, I listen to my audiobooks, and play card games, surf FB, and send memes to my ex-coworkers.

With WiFi going in and out all day long, it's put a crimp in my surfing style, yet I am duty-bound to be Henry's cuddler.

The Game Is Afoot!

"Philip St. John Basil Rathbone (13 June 1892 – 21 July 1967) was an English actor.

Born in South Africa and raised in Derbyshire, he rose to prominence in the United Kingdom as a Shakespearean stage actor and went on to appear in more than 70 films, primarily costume dramas, swashbucklers, and, occasionally, horror films." - Wikipedia

As a kid, we watched old black-and-white films on TV, and early on, I was a huge Errol Flynn fan.

Basil Rathbone played the very convincing villain to the hero in Captain Blood and The Adventures of Robin Hood  (movie screen grab above), and soon after began his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes from 1939 to 1946.

I easily joined Team Basil!

May I suggest his autobiography, "In & Out of Character"; it's very entertaining.

Years ago, I found a deerstalker-type cat hat, and here it is on our model, Chili Bruce, after being artified with Lunapic's Neon filter:

Do You Feel Like I Do?

Social media has these nutty 'on a scale of ______, how do you feel today?'

They are hilarious!

 😹😹😹

P.S. "Do You Feel Like I Do" was a song made popular by rock star Peter Frampton, and was written by: Peter Kenneth Frampton / Rick Wills / John T. Siomos / Mick Gallagher.

Ahem

Our Thankful Thursday

1. Someone...*ahem*...lost their keys while out on a neighborhood walk.

It was hot and very muggy, yet the look on The Hubby's face when I told him I'd lost my keys galvanized me into going back out to retrace my steps.

Then, I recalled that I'd stopped to snap pics of a new-to-me kitty, and my phone tracks where my photos are taken.

Beelining back; lo and behold!...there were my keys happily nestled in the lawn next to where Bruce Wayne came out to flirt with me.

Dodged a bullet, and am thankful for that.

Keys: front door key, back door key, barn/garage key, Cat Car key, and defense whistle.

2. After only a few mini-freakouts by someone...*ahem*...Henry received his first chemo capsule, and so far he seems to be fine.

There was concern about Henry's licks (he loves to lick my hands and arms), and he had a moment where he frothed at the mouth, but being careful to wash with soap and water, and using puppy pee pads have put everything to rights.

For a few days after a chemo treatment, the humans must avoid coming in contact with any excretions by the patient, hence wearing gloves when scooping the litter box, and washing/bleaching accidents.

Chores for today: buy more nitrile gloves, and be thankful for this first step into helping Henry overcome his intestinal woes.

Henry will need a chemo pill every two weeks, for up to five months.

3. Someone...*ahem*...was in the tattoo chair yesterday, getting new ink.

The sea monster isn't very monstrous; rather a cutie pie!

Was thankful to be in an air-conditioned place, as our local temps were high, with high humidity.

Also, I managed to complete a long audiobook started on Tuesday, and an entire novella audiobook, while chatting away to the ink artist, and all of the other artists who had to visit to see what we've cooked up this time.

Will show the other art, once they've healed.

Feasts for the Eyes and Ears

It's Walkin' and Readin' Wednesday, and here are some lovelies seen recently:

Ruby, who is a sweet wee pupper.

Niko owns the street.

Nightfury

Thomas

Feral Colony, of which Eightball is one of the four.
We loaned a humane trap to these folks, when Eightball was wounded; he's all better now.

These neighbors have got to hear me making smoochie noises at their cat; the window is open!
Just haven't caught anyone outside yet, in order for me to ask.

Recent audiobooks:

Swordheart, by T. Kingfisher, narrated by Jesse Vilinsky

"A sensible widow, Halla, inherits an estate and is threatened by her in-laws, leading her to accidentally release an immortal warrior, Sarkis, trapped in a sword; he becomes her reluctant bodyguard as they fight to secure her inheritance." - Goodreads

Entertaining romp, with magic, talking badger-like oxen drivers, and a woman who finds her groove.

The Lost Masterpiece, by B. A. Shapiro, narrated by Lucy Rayner, Christine Lakin, and Hannah Curtis

"A story of love, adultery, betrayal, longing, family secrets, and the birth of Impressionism." - Goodreads

Have enjoyed a few books by this author, and this one is good too!

Wylding Hall, by Elizabeth Hand, narrated by about a dozen narrators

What really happened to Julian Blake, who disappeared at Wylding Hall when his British acid-folk band gathered to make an album?

A short audiobook, with a gobstopper of an ending; entertaining!

Henry Update:

His first chemo pill was administered on Tuesday evening.

The very kind vet technician saw my worried face when I'd stopped in the vet's office to pick up meds, and assured me all would be well.

We hope so; Henry The Ninth is one heckuva kitty, and we want him to have a good, comfortable life.

Not Matching

Oops, this post came out on Monday in error, so I deleted it, and am reposting.

It's Twozday!

Da Boyz may or may not be littermates, but they are bonded and keep snuggling together.

Am still fascinated by their fur colors, probably due to the amount of time they hang out with each other.

The differences show with the right lighting.

Chili Bruce's nickname is Brown Bear.

Manny is Brows.
