Lily is a kitty who walks with a limp. Her sweet boy Charlie loves her to pieces, as do the rest of the family. But Dad has moved out, and Mom is trying to keep her children in line. Older son Kevin and daughter Victoria have so many interests of their own. But Charlie has bruises on his body, and Lily wants to know who is hurting him. As the story unfolds, this book covers some amazing territory, and all is handled with care and understanding. Drug addiction is bad, but how did a person get that way? Teenage love can be fleeting, or can it stand the test of time? If a boy wants to act like a girl one day, and a boy another, who has the right to say otherwise? Guns and violence; do children really understand? Can an adult fall in love with a whole family...or with their limping kitty?
An excellent read...or, listen, as in my case. I stumbled upon this book while looking for another, and am so very glad that I chose it, and I hope you'll agree with me.

I think I heard about this book. It is supposed to be good with the kitty at the center of everything..like that's anything new, really! - Tom x
ReplyDeleteYes, the story is told entirely in Lily's voice, and she's a peach!
DeleteSounds really good. :)
ReplyDeleteThis book is fantastic! Have you read The Astonishing Thing by Sandi Ward? Also told from the cat's POV and just as good!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it, but it's now on my list!
DeleteIt sounds interesting, but our neighbor's son just died of a drug overdose so I will pass for now. XO
ReplyDeleteI understand. In this story, the person gets addicted to pain pills, due to an injury sustained on the job. And then there is alcoholism too. I am so sorry for your neighbor's; what a horrible tragedy.
DeleteGood review, this sounds like a heck of a book.
