Cat Art History: Pablo Picasso

Pablo Ruiz Picasso (25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theatre designer.

One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

He also liked cats!

Here are just a handful of many Picasso cat images for your enjoyment:
Watercolor Cat, 1955
Crazy Woman With Cats, 1901
Dora Maar au Chat, 1941
Cat Catching a Bird, 1939
Femme au chat assise dans un fauteuil, 1964
Pablo Picasso, 1954

All images posted today were found on the interwebs, and used solely for the enjoyment of our readers.  The artwork titles and dates were also found online; some obviously already translated to English, but I did not find the original titles that could be French or Spanish.

  4. Wow! One certainly gets an education when visiting your blog. I love this sort of thing. Of course I am familiar with Picasso, but not so much with his alter ego PiCATsso. Good to know this great artist was a cat purrson, too. It speaks volumes.
