Loving Leonard

My dear friend, E. T. in British Columbia, whom I visited last year (and had a blast!), decided that this ginger boy needed to be in her house as soon as possible,

Now called Leonard, he was shy for awhile, then began venturing out.

Resident Sweet Pea was fairly sanguine about Leonard, and they get along well.

Equal time share on the sunpuddles!

Leonard was returned to the shelter, and E. T., who has been owned by ginger boys before, knew immediately that he belonged with her and Sweet Pea.

I loved Vancouver Island, and now I must plan a trip get acquainted with Leonard, as Sweet Pea already knows that sleeping in my lap on the lounger is A-OK.

Welcome, Leonard!

C.A.T.S.

Was very fortunate to have a VIP Tour of CATS Cat Advocates Teaching & Saving Society, in Comox, BC.

So much to see, only managed a few pics of kittens:

CATS is a volunteer-only cat rescue that works hard to find lost and relocated cats, to reduce the burden  of pet food and supply costs for the community, and educate cat owners to make the world a better place for themselves and their furry family members.

Have huge respect for CATS, and am happy to donate what I can, since I live over 4,000 kilometers away, and am unable to volunteer much.
And another gratuitous pic of Sweet Pea, who is a lovely kitty who falls asleep in my lap because she's doing her part to prevent my homesickness for Da Boyz and Henry.

The Hubby...well, I'm sure he's doing just fine without me...

Limerick

World Limerick Day is celebrated on May 12th, as it marks the birthday of Edward Lear, born on May 12, 1812.

Lear is widely considered the father of the modern limerick, thanks to his enormously popular Book of Nonsense, published in 1846.

Tried to write my own limerick but failed miserably, so here are a few I found online:

~~~
My dear little tabby named Tippy,
Found a box that was just itty bitty,
She knew she could fit
And determined to sit,
Her success was exceedingly iffy.
Am visiting my dear friend Erica in Courtenay, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Ocean views, mountains, scenic vistas at every turn, and a special little lady:
Sweet Pea!
The Hubby is taking excellent care of Da Boyz and Henry.
The Venerable Eric is 21
Today is Eric's 21st birthday!
Eric owns my dear friend ET in British Columbia, Canada.
He's living the good life; gets whatever food he wants, is allowed free reign in the house, and is often carried like a baby.
Happy Birthday, Doopy!
Celebrating Eric
Today is Eric's Gotchaversary; he was adopted on 6 January, 2005.
His birthday is 6 June, 2002.
Eric is 20-1/2 years old.
Eric lives with my dear friend in British Columbia, Canada.
When on the phone together, Eric always makes his presence known (as does Sweetie on my end!), and I've had many delightful conversations with this darling oldster, like this:
Eric: "Meerow!"
Me: "Hiya, handsome!"
Eric: "Meerow!"
Me: "Aww, such a good boy."
Eric: "Meerow!"
Me: "I agree with you, Eric."
❤️Happy Gotchaversary, Eric❤️
The world is a better place, with our Doopy in it.
Dear Friends
 Am I lucky to have friends who loan me their cats...er, um, well...pictures of their cats?
YES!
Am thankful for each one, so here is a list from yesterday's "Kiss A Ginger" post, with a short history of my dear friends:
Eric, who owns ET in British Columbia, Canada.
Eric's brofur, Angel Sparky, left us not long ago; they were a matched set!
I met ET on FB as we are cat people who love art, and the silliest memes available.
We have plans to travel around the world together, when the world stops wanting to kill us.
Mango, Rusty, Skittles, and Sassy boss around P&M in Florida.
I met P&M when a stray cat was found in the office parking lot, and they volunteered to care for him on the weekends.
With their guidance and help, we trapped George, vetted him, and he lived out his life with a wonderful family.
P&M and I forged an unbreakable bond.
Rufus, one of six cats who are muses to an artist, and is the only cat on this post whom I've met (and petted, thankyouverymuch!)
CE is smart, talented, and is unafraid to show it.
Not only do I enjoy her company, her art, and her cats, but as a Master Gardener, she is helping me to transform Eastside Cats' yard into a Native Plant oasis for birds, bees, bugs, bats, and butterflies!
Click on the photo of Rufus above to visit her Black Cat Pottery website.  CE lives about 30 minutes away from us, in Detroit, Michigan.
Eddie, the love of RB's life, in Manchester, U.K.
Every day, Eddie discovers a new place to climb, a lap to snuggle in, or a TV program to enjoy with her human.
I met RB via ET (Eric's human above), and although in severely different time zones, we talk cat, sports, films, and Monty Python skits.
Let's Hop!
For us, this means ginger or marmalade cats, also called red or yellow cats.
Alas, at this time, Eastside Cats has no resident ginger cats, however dear friends have loaned us theirs for today.
Meet:
Eric, in British Columbia
Mango, in Florida
Rusty, in Florida
Sassy, in Florida
Skittles, in Florida
Rufus, in Detroit
Eddie, in the UK
Hearty applause for our Ginger Gang, all with smoochies on their wee noggins!
Farewell, Grandpa Mason
Grandpa Mason’s Story
"In October 2016 we trapped an injured feral cat named Mason.
A surprise diagnosis of advanced terminal kidney disease meant we couldn’t return this fierce warrior to his home in the wild due to daily medical and feeding regimens with a special diet.
Mason’s many scars told us how hard he had fought to survive this long.  So, instead of euthanasia, we felt Mason deserved a chance to experience comfort and freedom from pain in his sunset months.  We didn’t know if he could accept life in captivity, but we needed to try.
Mason adjusted better than we were expecting, although he doesn’t want Humans to touch him.  That was the best we thought it could get for him, and he seemed quite content.
What happened next shocked us.
He met some rescue kittens one day, and his life suddenly was complete.  He had a purpose again, and every day since he met his first litter, we have seen a carefree kittenhood emerge that he clearly never had a chance to experience growing up feral.
He adores his kittens, and teaches them manners, lets them “comfort nurse”, and chases them around the house with great glee.  We’ve never seen anything like it, and we will try to keep him surrounded by kittens as much as possible.
What he taught us in the last year has been shocking and remarkable. This “lost cause” “worthless” old feral cat has enriched our lives in ways we could never have imagined. Follow his adventures at Grandpa Mason and his kittens.
We don’t know how many days he has left, but we know each one will be filled with happiness, comfort, adventure, love -- on his terms -- and the dignity every living creature deserves after a life well lived."
Yesterday, Grandpa Mason was helped into his angel wings, surrounded by love and kittens.  A unique story; a unique cat.  Rest In Peace, Angel Mason...you were the embodiment of love.
